Senator Cornyn Has Enough Votes For NICS Bill
BY Herschel Smith6 years, 8 months ago
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, has enough support to pass his “Fix NICS” gun control bill without the possibility of a filibuster, his office said Friday morning.
It’s not yet clear when the bill might get a vote, but a staff member said there are now 62 sponsors of the bill — a significant milestone. The bill would hold government agencies accountable for failing to properly document individuals’ criminal histories in the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
Cornyn and U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., first launched that bill in November after the Sutherland Springs shooting that killed more than two dozen people. But it has stalled in the Senate since then, despite having dozens of senators sign on as co-sponsors recent weeks.
The bill has bipartisan support, though Texas’ other U.S. senator, Republican Ted Cruz, is not among the co-sponsors.
We could go into detail on what this bill does and doesn’t do, but I think there are dangers lurking in this bill. I also want to make clear that my objection to it is that the entire concept of the NICS is an unconstitutional infringement.

And ultimately feelgood and ineffective. It’s just “doing something”, pure and simple

But many (most?) people can never get themselves to think objectively and rationally enough to see that truth. As it ever was, so it shall ever be.

If you have Ever bought a Gun through the ‘NICS’ Program, You are On a List. No, they Don’t dispose of those Records. Yes, You are now classified as an “Enemy of the State”
Be Ready when the “Troubles” get started.

@Gryphon,
The Gun Control Act of 1968 required newly manufactured and/or imported guns to have serial numbers and FFL dealers to maintain far more detailed sales records. “Lists” didn’t begin with the Brady Act in 1993.

Moe- True to an Extent, but I recall reading articles related to the ‘Brady Act’ at the Time that the ATF had a nearly Impossible Job of ‘tracing guns’ because the Licensed Dealers were Not Required to turn in Copies of their Records on a regular basis, and also, although when a Dealer went out of business, they were required to turn over those Records, the ATF had no Ability to Computerize the Records. Most of the Guns I Own fall under this situation, and I have them in “Reserve Status”, not stored where I Live.
I just see the NICS Data as being the ‘first string’ List of Guns that may be pursued. Regardless, Confiscation in any form will be Impossible to be Effective.

Funny thing, that NICS system and the data.
All the laws and regs say the FBI/BATFags can’t keep records of any of it.
Doesn’t say other countries can’t.

Lautenberg amendment in NICS acts retroactively to convictions prior to the law and they were NEVER INFORMED. This is “EX POST FACTO”. Those priors before NICS did NOT get “DUE PROCESS” to a lifetime gun ban adding a second sentencing to a prior judgement. This is a “BILL OF ATTAINDER”. NICS IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL TYRANNY, and supporters need to be prosectued.
