Virginia Elections

Congratulations to the “libertarian” voters in Virginia who today voted for Robert Sarvis. How does it feel to know that you threw your vote away and could have made a difference in the outcome of the election of communist Terry McAuliffe to the Governor’s mansion?
We discussed it. Instead of driving to the voting booth, you’re in a fight for your rights now, and will probably lose your liberty to own guns, your liberty to purchase them, and maybe even your liberty to purchase ammunition. You own it now boy. Oh, and make sure to sign up for Obamacare tomorrow.
Gird your loins, or move.

Mark Levin wrote in a Monday Facebook post that the RINOs, or Republicans in Name Only, wanted McCauliffe to win on Tuesday. “Many in the GOP establishment, from major fundraisers and consultants, to GOP officeholders such as the GOP Lt. Gov and mayor of Virginia Beach, have either trashed Attorney General Ken Cuccinnelli or endorsed McAuliffe outright. The GOP national machine has done next to nothing for Cuccinnelli,” Levin wrote.
In addition to all of those GOP establishment figures who were key operatives for Cantor, McDonnell, the RNC, and actual state GOP lawmakers, national RNC chairman Reince Priebus spent Tuesday in New Jersey to back up Chris Christie, whose re-election was never in question, rather than in Virginia using his celebrity to get out the vote in Cuccinelli’s nail-biter race.
There is also this report on Cuccinnelli in his own words concerning being abandoned by the GOP. This might have happened under the radar fifty years ago, but in this day and age they can’t hide it. The establishment GOP is in a scorched earth war on conservatives. So be it. Go ahead and nominate an establishment GOP candidate for the next office, gubernatorial, president, senate, house or whatever. Watch as conservatives stay home like they did in the last presidential election.

I am sorry to hear that your state is under the “leadership” of such a man now.
I think that demographics makes this type of thing (increased occurrences of marxists in office) inevitable, but dang. There’s likely no call for helping them.

My mother still lives in the Commonwealth of Virginia. After 2 tries, her voting machine still registered her vote incorrectly for the Libertarian. She had to have the machine rebooted in order for it to correctly register her vote.
I wonder how many other votes were mis-cast and went unnoticed?

I’ve always said that voting for a third party candidate in our winner take all election system is for people who are really bad at math. And apparently slept through civics class. All of you idiots out there need come to grips with the fact that we do not have a parliamentary system of government. There are no coalitions, there is only a race where the guy who gets the most votes wins the whole shootin’ match. There is no way for a third party to play any role other than spoiler until it REPLACES one of the original two parties. Yes, it is true that the GOP is basically dead. It is the 21st Century equivalent of the Whig party, but for you “Big L” libertarians, there is absolutely no indication that your party is the 21st Century equivalent of Lincoln’s Republicans.

At the Federal level in particular, yes, we’d need an actual second party before we could talk about a third party, but at state and local level, there are still stark differences. Cuccinnelli and McAuliffe were polar opposites.
As for Krispy Kreme Kristie…I wouldn’t piss on him if he were on fire…not that it would do much good, I don’t think my bladder can hold that much.

They didn’t throw their votes away. They actively voted for McAuliffe. Their candidate had no chance of winning. So a vote for Sarvis was half a vote for McAuliffe.

Do y’all STILL not understand that the GOP Elite don’t give a damn if EVERYONE stays home? Their goal is the same as that of the Democrats. The only difference is whose cronies get to slop at the government trough on the way there. Of course, the basic question is whether Cuccinelli was a decent man and deserved to be elected, or whether he was instead just another lying POS like Rubio who would say ANYTHING to get elected, knowing that there was nothing Mere Citizens could legally do to him once he was in office. The fact that the GOP Elite shunned him, however, does make that unlikely. Although the GOP Elite do seem to be “shunning” Florida Governor Rick Scott, and based on his actions against the Liberty County Sheriff and his appointment of Angela Corey to persecute George Zimmerman even when it was clear there was no valid case against him, Governor Scott is NOT one of the “good guys”.

Based on Cuccinelli’s voting record in the VA Senate and his performance as VA Attorney General, he seems to be a man of his word and convictions; whether you agree with him or not. He often went against the grain of prevailing social trends when it was unpopular, even when it would clearly cost him support from those who might have otherwise supported him who were of a more libertarian ilk who disagreed with his social conservatism re: gay marriage, abortion, etc..
Of course, no one can say for certain whether the perqs and power of the governor’s office would have corrupted him and as many use it as a stepping stone to the US Senate, it often ends up that way.
