Those Dangerous Constitutionalists!

The Blaze:

A sheriff in Washington state responded Monday to a controversial comment made by one of his deputies two weeks ago during a charity event.

Jerry Moffett, a deputy in Spokane County, Washington, was caught on tape at the Holiday and Heroes event during which some officers took underprivileged children shopping while others stood outside meeting and greeting those attending. But one woman who spoke to Moffett decided to record the interaction. In the video, the woman asks Moffett about the department’s Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) military-style vehicles.

“I’m thinking that is totally appropriate in Iraq but what kind of a situation in the U.S. would you see that happening?” the woman asked Moffett.

The deputy responded by saying, “We’ve got a lot of Constitutionalists and a lot of people that stockpile weapons, a lot of ammunition. They have weapons here locally.”

The Sheriff made a followup comment.

Knezovich said there is “no way” the equipment will be used on any law-abiding citizen. ”It will never be used to take your guns away,” he told the outlet. The outlet noted Moffett is a 20-year veteran of the force and an Army veteran … KXLY reported that Knezovich has since admitted that Moffett’s word choice could have been better, suggesting “extremist” would have been more appropriate than “Constitutionalist

Far from being shocked, disappointed or aghast at the comment by Moffett, I’m pleasantly surprised at his honesty.  It’s always a good thing when the truth comes out.  There is no reason for such equipment on police forces across the nation except for use on the people of America.  Moffett’s candid response reminds us of this truth.

I’m also pleasantly surprised that the Sheriff brought up his time in grade on the police force and his military background.  My own son believes that former military should try to avoid law enforcement if possible.  There are good men who are former military, and there are bad men who are former military.  Moffett is a bad one, and there is no justification for worship of the military.  I know what my own son answers to the question, ‘Son, will you fire on American citizens?’  He would sooner fire on his commanding officers who issued such an order.

Mike Vanderboegh was called a radical right-winger.  Hey, radical right-winger, constitutionalist or extremist.  It’s six one way and half a dozen the other.  As for Moffett, we know where he stands, and it’s because of people like him that we are constitutionalists and stockpile weapons.  Bring it, Moffett.

The laws of this country have become so convoluted that is hard NOT to be a lawbreaker. One estimate is that folks commit an average of 3 felonies per day just going about the business of earning a living.
So there are no “law-abiding” citizens.

Ayn Rand also had a great bit of exposition on this in Atlas Shrugged

“Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against – then you’ll know that this is not the age of beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you’d better get wise to it. There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one ‘makes’ them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted- and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on the guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Rearden, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

In the minds of people like Moffet (and maybe Knezovich too), once a person becomes a “Constitutionalist” and “stockpiles a lot of weapons and… ammunition”, they immediately become a threat to the State, whereupon the State no longer sees them as a “law-abiding citizen”, but a “criminal” or “terrorist”, and sees fit to roll MRAPs and load belts of 7.62×51 into the feed trays of the M60’s.

This isn’t exactly a Ford Explorer or a Dodge Charger we’re talking about here. Third, “We The People” may not stand much chance against armored plating or M60 machine guns (as Backwoods Engineer is 100% right about), but the guy who fixes the local goon-squad’s MRAP is going to be picked off as he’s walking down his own driveway. Good luck keeping a competent mechanic around once it really sinks in that the “soft targets” of 4th-Generation Warfare are the most vulnerable. Not to mention the fact that all this military hardware going into “fly-over country” is only creating mini-aresenals which will be taken over because Mr. Bad-Boy cop would rather protect his own family than risk being skinned alive if/when all this goes hot on a wide-scale.

The loggers were they guys that did most of the maintenance of the Forest Service roads here, and there hasn’t been a lot of that going on since Bill Clinton shut down federal timber sales 20 years ago.

Not to mention the fact that those dumb things weigh about 15 tons at a minimum…..ideal for a pit-trap. Dig a deep hole, put some pieces of plywood across, cover it with dirt and leaves…..viola. The goon squad may be somewhat safe tucked away in their little armoured shell, but they can’t stay in there forever. Something else that occurs to me- when they get this thing stuck in the boonies, what are they gonna do? Call AAA? It would take a big rig wrecker and a brush crew clearing the way to get it unstuck. Or walk a 7 with a winch five miles to get it. Good luck.

There are those folks sitting in their offices, far from danger, writing orders, directing, and deciding who gets SWAT-ed…..they don’t mind putting other people’s lives on the line to go raid one of those lousy “Constitutionalists”……but suppose a couple of the lawyers and bosses get sniped in their own driveway? Or in the bathroom at a restaurant? Or they get “Brietbart-ed” on their morning jog? Suddenly, they will realize that they themselves are not safe either. Imagine the chilling effect that would have in ordering those reckless, arrogant raids against newly-minted “criminals”….that is, people merely standing up for their natural-born rights…

The odds? That’s a good question. I can tell you this much though: A lot will depend on your local sheriff and what his attitudes are towards the rights of the people. So far, in States like New York, Connecticut, Colorado, and (now) Washington State that have imposed draconian gun laws, many County Sheriffs are telling their respective States to go pound sand and they won’t enforce them. Add to that, in Ct there is an 88% non-compliance rate for their “assault weapons” ban, and in New York State it’s damn_near 99%. This represents a major problem for the anti-gun governors and attorney generals of those States. Right now, they don’t know what to do. Methinks they are arrogant and stupid enough to start kicking in doors. They are going to find themselves overwhelmed in a real hurry and and going to request federal assistance, which Barackus Caesar will be all too happy to provide via all the ABC agencies. At that point, it’s going to get really ugly really fast, and who knows how things will do down from there.
The Leftists, Collectivists, Gun-banners and Statists in this country have become emboldened over the past several years, openly calling for the death or incarceration of anyone who opposes them. They used to hide their true thoughts and beliefs, but now they are open about them…..it’s a bit scary, but it’s actually a good thing. After years and years of them telling us that “no one is wanting to take your guns away, we just want reasonable legislation”, now we have tons of proof they have been lying through their teeth for decades. You see, things aren’t moving fast enough for them. They haven’t been able to persuade us to give up our rights peacefully, so now they’re taking the direct, forceful approach. Better we face enemies who are up-front about who they are than people who pretend to be your friends but actually are not. So, let them try. It’s going to backfire on them spectacularly. Ever seen a war-crimes tribunal take place? At some point in the not-so-distant future, you might.

And in 4GW, it might even be cleaner than “traditional” civil war; it’d take fewer examples – albeit higher-profile ones – for tyranny’s tools and supporters (and their supporters; all targets are fair game) to get the idea that their actions are inconsistent with a nation founded on liberty, and therefore intolerable.

Police shoot a quarter of a million dogs every year, with impunity. No one can do this and get away with it, except the police, who are supported at every turn by the corrupt judicial system. A man tells the truth about why this weaponry exists as part of American policing, and after time in the military, plus 20 years on the police force, does so from a well developed world view that includes disparagement for the rights of citizens to hold arms.

    Guest,

    Do you think in English?

The thing about people who aren’t politicians is that they usually say what they think, and think what they say. That’s because people,

generally, won’t say something that they would not ever, in a million years, think. Maybe Moffet mis-spoke; but it’s harder to accept that

Moffett mis-THOUGHT. His association of dangerous criminality with the term “constitutionalist” didn’t just pop onto his tongue without first

    being present in his brain.

By that, I mean that only someone who associates (in his head) the word “constitutionalist” with a criminal threat would say what Moffett said.

No one who is “Pro-Life” is going to seriously refer to an unborn baby as “a clump of cells”, or an abortion as “no different that clipping your

toe-nails”. That’s because he wouldn’t ever THINK of an unborn baby that way.

Now, Moffett may have an entirely different thing in mind than most persons here would think of as a “constitutionalist”. This COULD,

theoretically, come from dealings with criminal individuals or groups who are NOT, in fact, constitutionalist; but who merely give themselves

    that appellation.

You’re right; people sometimes mis-speak. And we should be perfectly willing to at least hear what Moffett has to say regarding his mis-use of

the term “constitutionalist”. But, if his boss’ opinion that constitutionalists are (presumptively criminal) “extremists” is anything to go by

    — and it sure-as-shit IS — then I’m not hopeful that Moffet’s explanation would be convincing.

Besides, there are other worrying statements by Moffett AND Knezovich regarding the need for and purpose of the MRAP that go beyond the

    statement about “constitutionalists”.
