I have seen this on a USMC KD range numerous times…it comes down to counting rounds, or at least having a good guesstimate of how many you have fired.

There’s too much simply wrong about the vid to take it at face value beyond it being a farce.
1 On no standard Army training range is firing allowed without, at minimum, the SM wearing a helmet. It just isn’t done, and the SMs supervisors, not to mention the range officer who ever allowed it, would, at least, be seriously reprimanded, and, at worst, find themselves looking for other jobs for a safety violation of this sort.
2 The firing line is apparently covered (note 4×4 post in front of firing line) and there are no standard Army training ranges, short of early, non-firing BRM stages, where the firing line is covered.
And the continued giggling in the background is a big indicator as well.
It appears to be a comedy routine, probably made up for the BTC’s graduation DVD, which has almost replaced the ‘yearbook’ type of graduation crap that is marketed
NB. I used the word ‘standard’ Army range. There are Army ranges where the above points don’t apply.

If you're interested in what else the The Captain's Journal has to say, you might try thumbing through the archives and visiting the main index, or; perhaps you would like to learn more about TCJ.
