Ted Cruz To Spearhead Fight Over Internet Control
BY Herschel Smith8 years, 1 month ago
Leading the troop of Republican lawmakers, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is inching towards a September showdown with the White House over transfer of internet control, according to The Hill.
“To stop the giveaway of our Internet freedom, Congress should act by continuing and by strengthening the appropriations rider in the continuing resolution that we will be considering this month,” said Cruz.
Cruz has already initiated a website warning about the dangers of the Obama administration’s strategy, Politico reports.
This fight with the current government could be a repeat of the 2013 Obamacare fight, according to The Hill, which threatened to plunge the federal government into a financial crisis after passage of the resolution.
The Texas lawmaker warned it can be dangerous if the U.S. ignored the internet powers it enjoyed as countries like Russia, China and Iran would take over. GOP lawmakers don’t want the Obama administration to surrender its authority to ICANN, the global nonprofit organization that manages the internet’s domain name system.
According to The Hill, few Republicans, however, prefer to stay away from the showdown. House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, are not keen on pursuing the fight to retain internet power.
Go get ’em Ted. And of course Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan aren’t interested in helping. They are captains of a den of demons.
As far as I’m concerned, Ted should keep charging until the whole gang of the ne’er-do-wells are hung from the nearest lamp post on Pennsylvania Avenue.

I haven’t seen it written by anybody yet so I’m guessing nobody has thought of it but when an international org sensors speech in america what will team gov do? It will hem and haw and bluster and threaten to get to the bottom of it all but in the end it will throw up it’s hands and say well we tried but it’s out of our control. And all the while team tyranny will be laughing because they managed to sensor us while it dictates to our new international overloads what shall be deemed acceptable speach in the us. Why can nobody see this?
Nobody in fed gov will try to stop it. Why would they? Stopping it fails to gather more power and money unto itself.

A-yup. “If you like your Internet free speech, you can keep your Internet free speech.”
And no, the fed gov won’t stop it. They’ll start PACs and accept donations to “fund the fight for Internet freedom (that we already surrendered)”, but those donations — and there WILL be millions of dollars of them — will somehow never be enough to WIN BACK the freedom WE ALREADY HAD, that our government GAVE AWAY.
[sarc] “Governments … deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”? What a quaint and archaic idea! Just like the outdated Second Amendment, it’s no longer needed! [/sarc]

Congress is as feckless and irresponsible as Obama, even worse, as they should be holding him to the letter of the law and not his lapdog. I am convinced that the corruption is so deep and wide that Obama can do whatever he wants and get away with it. Hillarys walking from certain prison sentence is a flashing sign that says the regime is above the law. Its time for a revolution to take America back from the Globalists, bankers, and political elite, commence a Nurenberg type trial and the executions of the traitors. Liberalism must be destroyed. Communism must be destroyed. Islamism must be destroyed. And American Patriotism must rise become integral in every Americans life. Obama has done in 7 years what Kruschev dreamed of doing. This is why the left must be destroyed.

I cannot understand the hysteria being drummed up surrounding this. These are root DN servers, not the Internet. They’re still completely controlled by their owners. MIT owns its server, the federal government will continue to own theirs, etc, even after whatever level of jurisdiction and maintenance responsibility is handed off to ICANN. They have been managing the world’s domain names forever now, and I see no indication they’ve behaved improperly thus far.
The apathy in regards to the censorship and data mining that is already ongoing on Google, Facebook and others’ platforms is what concerns me.

Josh is 100% right, those who control the root DNS servers ultimately control this part of the Internet, and take that duty seriously. To use them as a censorship mechanism you’ll have to subvert enough of them, or get those who route packets to redirect them to more amenable authorities.
