Travis Haley On Concealed Appendix Carry
BY Herschel Smith8 years ago
Travis prints only a little bit with his appendix carry, and I admit that he makes a very good case for the superior tactical advantage of appendix over 3:00 carry.
But I also have to say that I cannot get comfortable with appendix carry. My carry is more like 2:00 – 2:30. I just can’t move it around any more and be comfortable.
How do you carry?

IWB kidney carry for me. And in the years I’ve been carrying, I’ve only had one person figure out that I’m armed. When I shoot IDPA, I use my CCW rig.
If I ever move to a state that allows open carry, I’ll go OWB on the hip.

I’m a real believer in Appendix Carry.
Currently I carry a G19 with a Trijicon RM06 and Surefire XC1, mounted in a G-Code Incog Shadow XC1 Eclipse holster. My other (alternate) soon to AIWB carry pistol, will be the CZ-USA 75D Compact with XS Big Dot sights. I’ll be carrying it in a Stealthgearusa.com hybrid holster.
To me there are multiple reasons to carry Appendix:
1. It is in a position where it is easily accessible.
2. The draw is very fast with little practice.
3. Arms held criss-crossed in front of the body is a very natural position, helping to hide the weapon if printing is a concern.
4. One can easily “protect” their weapon vs a 4 o’clock/8 o’clock hip position.
5. It is the most comfortable and practical carry position when seated.
The G-Code holster I use has a single belt clip. It holds in place well. The single belt clip allows for some adjustment to accommodate discomfort that one may experience during their carry. The big problem I have with G-Code is they have a limited number of pistols for which they make holsters for. Their holster quality is excellent. If you’re a Glock fanboy G-Code has you covered.
In the meantime I found the Stealth Gear USA (http://stealthgearusa.com) holsters. They manufacture holsters for more than 170 different handguns in their VentCore AIWB model.
Once you decide on carrying Appendix Inside the Waist Band, the other half of the battle is finding a good holster for your chosen handgun. Like many folks I have a bucket or two of holsters I no longer use. Most of them like new. They just didn’t work for me. The two holster companies I mention above are working well for me. Your mileage may vary.
But, Appendix Carry….I love it. Just re-holster slowly and keep your finger off the trigger.

Folks, just for clarification….my Appendix Carry rides at the 12:30 position with a slight tweak left of right during the day.
