Mountain Biking Croft State Park

The Southside Trail Loop in Croft State Park runs up the side of a mountain in one direction, and along a river in the other, and which part you do first depends on whether you go clockwise or counterclockwise. The uphill is strenuous to the point of being grueling, and the downhill part is very fast and technical. The total loop is about nine miles, but it feels like fifteen.
Along the river there is some relatively flat terrain in an old growth forest that is absolutely enchanting.

That single track looks like a blast.

Some flat trails around here would be nice. I’m by the Santa Monica Mtns in LA, and most trails (fire trails or single track) either go up or down. The older I get, the flatter I like it. The better not to break my neck.

Yea, it was a blast Ned. Bill, there is very little flat. Mostly all of the single track around these parts are uphill or downhill. Croft State Park, Lake James State Park, George Poston Park, they just all are basically a kick in the nuts. I posted this pic because it was such a stark contrast from the rest of the trail. A picture can’t do justice to the sunlight streaming down through the trees and the greenest green I’ve ever seen.
