The Militia In Charlottesville

NYT:
You saw the militia walking down the street, you would have thought they were an army,” he added. “I was just talking to the State Police upstairs; they had better equipment than our State Police had,” he said, referring to the militia members. “And yet not a shot was fired, zero property damage.”
Good for you. Good job, boys.

Apparently the NYT article has been updated, but with no footnote that it has been edited (y’know, because that would be honest). The full quote you pulled from Governor McAuliffe no longer appears in the article; just the one line where he says, “They had better equipment than our State Police had.” Nothing else.
The parts where he acknowledges that the “camouflage-clad militia” with their “assault rifles” fired no shots, assaulted nobody, and caused zero property damage were removed. The article cannot contradict The Narrative [TM].
