The Ruger American Ranch Rifle .450 Bushmaster
BY Herschel Smith7 years, 1 month ago
I see this issue of American Rifleman has an article on the Ruger American Ranch Rifle in .450 Bushmaster.
I also see that American Rifleman already tested it. I confess to intense interest in this rifle. I had not studied the .450 Bushmaster before, but to get such a big thumper and wallop in such a small package as this rifle is appealing to say the least. And it’s an aesthetically pleasing gun too.
Do any readers have experience with the .450 Bushmaster for hog hunting, or just range shooting or carry as a bush gun?

Jeff Quinn has good overview here:

Wow, 3 to 5 pound adjustable trigger and it comes in under 6 pounds of carry weight without the scope. That’s a lot of power in an easy to shoot package. Nice.

I don’t have experience with this round, it is interesting. There’s a version of the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle (GSR) available, too, with a four round removable magazine. Worth considering as well. I’m big on bolt guns with removable magazines, with my .308 chambered GSR I can keep up with AR-15s when shooting a round of an Appleseed course.

@Pat,
Off topic, but did you see the latest from my Alma Mater?

What a shit hole they have become. Shameful. I wouldn’t give them one penny of my money if they were the last University one earth now. They’ve come a long way down the toilet from ’81 and teaching me engineering.

I have a buddy with an AR in 450 Bushmaster. Accurate, handy, recoil in the 308 bolt action class. If it were in the budget, I’d have one…or a 458 SOCOM or 50 Beowulf. I agree – this bolt action is attractive.

I don’t recite the PoA either, but it’s for that horrible word ‘indivisible’ that has no reason for being there except that the author of the pledge was a state-loving socialist.

Don’t know much about the 450, but I sure like the Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70. Ballistics of the 450 and 45-70 are supposed to be similar.
