FBI Contract For $19 Million Awarded To Federal Ammunition
BY Herschel Smith6 years, 7 months ago
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has awarded Vista Outdoor a contract to supply FBI and other Federal Government Agencies with a high-performance Federal Premium 9mm handgun training round specifically designed to support their mission.
The IDIQ (indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity) contract, which has four option years, is for up to $19 million in 9mm handgun training rounds.
The FBI employs about 35,000 personnel. Assuming that 20,000 of them are armed agents, that’s approximately 950 rounds per agent.
Read it all in the context of the FedGov being at war with the American people.

With a bit of searching I found the solicitation, and it doesn’t specify how many rounds are in it. Also note there’s a total of $35 million maximum for 5 years for service, reduced lead training rounds (what this contract is for), and no lead frangible training rounds for use on steel targets. Two other contracts were let to Hornaday for $11 million for all 3 types, and and Olin-Winchester for $5 million, I couldn’t find a press release for this contract, but they had one in January for .40 S&W, which the FBI is transitioning off of.
People in the industry likely have an idea of how many rounds are involved, but it’s not easy to calculate, these are high overhead contacts, the usual government overhead including supplying 2,000 rounds of each type with your bid, plus shipping to all FBI locations in the US and Puerto Rico, extensive to FBI standards testing (one question they answered pertained to their required method of non-SAAMI velocity testing), warranty service which may required background checked personnel to visit a FBI facility, etc. etc. etc. Of course, likely bid winners have already learned the ropes in previous contracts, know how to handle the greenhouse gas emission declaration or what it means if they don’t, etc.
Maybe it’s about right for training and duty use, as I figured out for the contact let out to NOAA’s Fish Police which was mislabeled as being for the National Weather Service (weather forecasters), maybe they’re indeed stocking up for a potential civil war. Certainly I don’t expect the government to quickly run low on ammo if it comes to that.

This Meme of the .gov buying BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of Rounds of Ammo has been around for at least a Decade, (as I recall) and I have yet to see any comparison of Numbers of Ammo actually Delivered to the Military, rest of .gov, an the Commercial Market (aka We the People). That Estimate of ‘950 rounds per Agent’ is a Box of 50 Shy of the 1,000 Rounds of 9 I bought last Week. Is Each of those Fools, Bunglers, and Incompetents gong to Shoot that at the range over the course of a Year?
H. is likely Correct, when all is said and done in the ‘procurement process’, “We the Taxpayers” will probably have Paid $2.59 per Round, for not all that Many.
