Welcome The New NRA President
BY Herschel Smith6 years, 7 months ago
Following the Waco stand-off of 1993, where 82 members of the Branch Davidian sect were killed following a failed attempt to serve a warrant on the group’s leader, David Koresh, on weapons charges, North offered a full-throated defense of the feds, criticizing “arm-chair critics…second-guessing law enforcement officers on the scene.”
Wayne and Chris run things. Until they are out, it’s the same old compromising, statist NRA. North will toe the line.

The NRA needs to be lead by someone like Harlan Carter: “…no compromise…no gun legislation!”

I checked the original source, the May 1994 issue of Liberty magazine, page 9, and the claims are credible and falsifiable. Which include a claim that in “the previous year” North also supported an “‘assault weapons'” ban, (note the following quote is of the magazine, not North), “declaring that anyone who wants to possess such a weapon should join the Marine Corps.”
Looks like they’ve elevated another Heston, who campaigned as an actor in Westerns for the Gun Control Act of 1968, and who just before or right after being made NRA President denounced AK-47s on a radio show.
Flip side, North has one of the best records of any living person in verbally dealing with hostile political enemies, although he’s not a photogenic young Marine anymore.

Side technical note on this blog: for whatever reasons, my previous posting here as well as at least two recent ones included one hyperlinked URL (and one of those was accidentally malformed with the tag to end italics instead of the link), and went through without problem or needing moderation.

I feel as if the NRA is actively trying to rejoin the 20th Century. Yet, here we are, in mid-2018.

@Bill,
Good point. Appealing to Fudds and old men. Rather than making new gun owners from FPS gamers, or other options for expanding our influence.

Statist.

All situations can be distilled down into 2 principles: Money, and/or ‘Power’.
As NRA President, North gets both. He gets some $ (although I don’t know how much). He gets a ‘Power’ trip by being NRA’s anointed. exulted leader, being in the public eye (he certainly enjoyed playing that role during the Iran-Contra hearings), and being able to hobnob with politicians to endorse/rebuff legislation (‘wheeling and dealing”).
Mao had it almost right:
“Power flows from the barrel of a gun, AND FROM AN ACCOUNT AT A BANK.”

Well, at least he isn’t waving Heston’s flintlock around.

Ollie is the NRA’s newest ‘pretty’, neuered, ‘say what zhe’s told to say’, ‘don’t embarrass us’ face.
But for all its faults of insufficiency, the NRA is still the ultimate example of “Halitosis is better than no breath at all.”

Oliver North is traitor to his several oaths of office. The man is a Naval Academy grad, he knows full well what the limits on the US government are, he’s never lived with them.
He’s a unindicted criminal.
Fornicate him.
