The Gun Control Hall Of Shame
BY Herschel Smith6 years, 7 months ago
This is a new series inspired by reader Michael, updated as time permits and as assisted by readers. I do not intend for me to do all of the work.
“Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA — ordinary citizens don’t need guns, as their having guns doesn’t serve the State.”
–Heinrich Himmler
“I have grown up with guns all my life, but people who like assault weapons they should join the United States Army, we have them.”
–Gen. Wesley Clark, US Army
“Anyone who wants to possess such a weapon (“assault weapon”) should join the Marine Corps.”
–Oliver North, President of NRA
“We think it’s reasonable to provide mandatory instant criminal background checks for every sale at every gun show. No loopholes anywhere for anyone.”
–Wayne LaPierre, CEO and Executive Vice President, NRA
“In the aftermath of two of the country’s worst mass shootings, it’s an affront to both our safety as a nation and the common sense of its citizens that Congress would consider actually weakening our gun laws.”
–General Stanley McChrystal, author of the ROE that killed good men at Ganjgal
“I spent a career carrying typically either an M16 or an M4 Carbine. An M4 Carbine fires a .223 caliber round which is 5.56 mm at about 3000 feet per second. When it hits a human body, the effects are devastating. It’s designed for that,” McChrystal explained. “That’s what our soldiers ought to carry. I personally don’t think there’s any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America.”
–General Stanley McChrystal
For the record, The Captain’s Journal believes that all gun control laws are an affront to God’s created order and denial of rights endowed by our creator by virtue of being created in His image, and a violation and infringement of the constitution of the U.S. and the various states.

[In a 1991 speech, Reagan said]: “I’m a member of the NRA. And my position on the right to bear arms is well known. But I support the Brady bill and I urge the Congress to enact it without delay. It’s just plain common sense that there be a waiting period [7 days] to allow local law enforcement officials to conduct background checks on those who wish to buy a handgun.” http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Ronald_Reagan_Gun_Control.htm
From George W. Bush:
“Law-abiding citizens ought to be allowed to protect their families. We ought to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them. That’s why I’m for instant background checks at gun shows. I’m for trigger locks. I think we ought to raise the age at which juveniles can have a gun. I also believe that the best way to make sure that we keep our society safe is to hold people accountable for breaking the law. If we catch somebody illegally selling a gun, there needs to be a consequence. The federal government can help.”

From Donald Trump:
“I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record.”

We expect voters to make gun violence prevention a priority in the crucial 2018 midterm elections.” Josh Horwitz, Executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence 28 December, 2017
“Assault weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons –anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun– can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.” – Josh Sugarman, founder, Violence Policy Center
“The Congress can pass it. The President can sign it. But this shameful law will not stand, … We will challenge the constitutionality of this special- interest extravaganza in every court where the rights of gun violence victims are being threatened.”

The second Amendment is NOT about guns.
The Second Amendment is the God given right to self defense against evil people and evil governments.
THAT is why the Founding fathers included the right of the people (NOT militias) shall NOT be infringed.
They wrote that in the day for muskets, yet it was NOT about muskets. Because when they wrote the Second Amendment the arms for the armed military was….muskets. Yet somehow the definition changed because we have a different kind of musket in the armed forces today? That is just as silly an argument as saying that the freedom of the press is only supposed to include a feather quill and a pot of ink.
The God given right to self defense is the basis that gives all other God given rights their meaning. Does the right to be free of cruel and unusual punishment have any meaning for someone who has died> Does the murder victim really need a right of free speech? No, without the God given right to self defense all of the other Amendments loose their blessings. The founders saw that government too often becomes the scourge of man and must be restrained. It is the recognition and declaration of God given rights that restrains our government. Those who wish to free the beast, no matter their good intentions should be schooled in all of the excesses that government unrestrained has wrought throughout human history.

With due respects, that does not mean the quote isn’t genuine. Reno wouldn’t be the first or last political figure to say something rash when she didn’t know someone was listening, or thought her remarks were off-the-record. Unless you have explicit proof the quote isn’t genuine, you still haven’t knocked it down.

I tend to be risk averse when it verifying a quote, as I’ve seen too many fake quotes and had egg on my face in the past when I didn’t verify a source.
I dug a little further. Most sources claim she said this on Good Morning America on a certain date in 1993, which is a falsifiable claim. The left wing snopes uses this to shoot the quote down. It appears that use of this quote led to Senator Vicki Marble getting embarrassed by gun grabbing fellow senator: https://youtu.be/WPYGMgYAx2s
In fact, it seems that Marion Hammer is responsible for muddling the details. I’m inclined to believe Mr. Diamond. She probably said it in 1984, not 1993. From http://guncite.com/gun_control_gcbogus.html
———————————————————
According to editorials by Martin Dyckman, published in the St. Petersburg Times May 2 and May 28, 1995, the “quote” appears to have originated with an affidavit written by Fred Diamond of Miami, FL who claimed to have heard Reno speak in Coral Gables (not Fort Lauderdale) “on or about November 1, 1984”. According to Diamond’s affidavit, “Janet Reno told the members of our group assembled, that waiting periods were only a step, that registration was only a step, and further that the prohibition of the private ownership of firearms was the only ultimate solution to controlling crime. I was shocked and appalled to hear her, an elected public official sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution, espouse and advocate a position that would effectively repeal the guarantees of the Second Amendment.”
Early in 1993, after Reno was nominated to be Attorney General, Diamond talked to Marion Hammer, then the National Rifle Association’s Florida lobbyist, and NRA sent him affidavits to sign. Diamond says he rejected their first draft. Subsequently, Hammer’s newsletter, Florida Firing Line, published an article on Reno in March 1993, including almost word for word the key passage from Diamond’s affidavit about what Reno allegedly said, but the newsletter put the speech in 1991, not 1984. Diamond didn’t sign the affidavit (with the correct year) until June 17, 1993, after Reno had already been confirmed.

Yes.
This is a question about natural rights and Liberty
1. This isn’t about scary inanimate objects the national Socialist Left doesn’t understand.
We don’t talk about freedom of speech in terms of ‘pen’ control so why are we doing this for the commonsense natural right of self-preservation.
2. The issue here is Liberty – and this extends to other aspects of the bill of rights.
3. The national Socialist Left would love to keep this in terms of scary objects.
4. They cannot abide the use of Liberty instead of gun in this debate.
Thus it should be:
Liberty Control instead of Gun Control
or Liberty reform instead of Gun reform
Finally, we need to keep this debate in terms of Liberty Culture as opposed to the Left’s Culture of death.

It’s just cheaper to take away the guns that aren’t imperative to living in America. You don’t need an AR-15 to protect yourself in bed from a robber at night. You don’t need an AR-15 to have fun at a shooting range. Go join the Army if you want to have fun shooting off a weapon. And serve your fucking country. Excuse my language.

This is a matter of vital importance to the public safety … While we recognize that assault-weapon legislation will not stop all assault-weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals.

Jewish voters care. They want someone who’s good on Israel and who’s good on Jewish issues. But they also want somebody who’s going to be pro-choice and pro-gun control and pro-gay rights. To the vast majority of the Jewish community, just being good on Israel or on Jewish issues is not enough.

“[W]e’ll have to start working again to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen the next law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time. . . . The first problem is to slow down the number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition-except for the military, police, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors-totally illegal.” Nelson “Pete” Shields, founder Handgun Control, Inc.
