Site Down And Then Recovered
BY Herschel Smith6 years, 4 months ago
Thanks for the well-wishers on Friday. Nickel summary: The host had a card that had been hacked. The bank told us that most accounts would roll over to the new card without a problem since it was the same number (just different security code). Most did.
The hosting company didn’t. So we had to give them new bank information and then the site was put back up.
Money. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Mr. Smith,
Glad you are back. Captains Journal has become a habit like morning coffee.

Why don’t you have a donations link? This thing must cost you treasure in addition to the tremendous amount of time you toil.

@Heywood,
I’d rather take a beating than beg for money.
That said, I may install a widget for something or other, I’d prefer not to use PayPal. The last time I did that I got exactly 0 (zero) $ and cents.
People could pay if they wanted, not if they didn’t. It costs about $20 per month to host the site, and my oldest son Josh does the site maintenance for free.
Then again, I could install links for sites like Lucky Gunner where I got a small fraction of the sale for sending the traffic. I’ll have to think about it.

@Herschel. I know how you feel about PayPal. While I know you don’t do this to get rich, it would be nice if those of us who peruse the site daily and find the content beneficial could kick in a few bucks. You could be spending the time you spend on this riding your mountain bike or hiking with the family.
