New Ruger Modern Sporting Rifle In .450 Bushmaster

From American Rifleman:
Ruger has announced the new AR-556 Multi-Purpose Rifle (MPR) chambered in .450 Bushmaster, offering an ideal hunting platform for midwestern whitetail deer, sizeable pigs, and target shooting at heavy steel
It has an 18″ barrel. I like the price point of approximately $1000. I think that’s the sweet spot for these kinds of rifles, and both Ruger and Savage are doing a nice job of new chamberings for that price range.

I am not sure why the thirst for a big bore in the AR platform.
first there was the 50 Beowolf, then the bushmaster and the SOCOM.
What can they do that the .308 can’t?
As far as pig slaying goes, the .308 does a bang up job.
Lots of pig hunters use the .308.
.308 ammo is readily available. if one is just looking for something different, then ok. but no real need here.

“…why the thirst for a big bore in the AR platform.” In Southern Michigan Zone II and Ohio deer hunting is now allowed with straight walled cartridges of greater diameter than .35 in rifles. Previously they were restricted to shotguns.

The bigger question is why is the Ruger SR 762 priced at $2,000?

My experience with the SR 762 was bad. FTF & FTE all day long. Sent it back twice. Could’ve been the inexperience for Ruger with designing their own piston and regulator. But you’d think a company that has been around as long as it has would get it right. I can only guess it’s quantity versus quality today. I tried premium ammo and same results. Regardless if they could resolve it, my confidence was broken and I wouldn’t bet my life on it. I’m glad they felt the need to refund my money. At the time it cost me $1600. I should’ve read the forums because it was evident there was a problem with the platform.
