…and not one other cop in his department knew he was doing this, right? Not one other cop he worked with ever saw this, heard of it or suspected it, right?
But 99% are such GOOD GUYS who would NEVER do such a thing!
ALWAYS SAY NO to cops! Always! They are NOT there to protect you, make you safe, or be your friend. Their job is to make cases which get convictions. Fucking you over is just another day at the office.

Actually, IMHO, given his position of authority and commensurate duties and responsibilities to society and the public at large (and remembering that to whom much is given, much is required), I’d be in favor of the death penalty as his just reward.

This story is far, far worse than the the story presented here. Notice the racketeering charges:
“Last month, Benefield and eight others filed a federal lawsuit accusing Wester and two other deputies of planting drugs and making illegal arrests, and the Jackson County sheriff’s office of negligence. The suit accuses all the defendants of violating the individuals’ civil and constitutional rights through illegal search, seizure, detention, prosecution, and incarceration. The plaintiffs’ attorney, Marie Mattox, told The Appeal the suit represents “only the tip of the iceberg,” and she plans to add another 18 to 20 plaintiffs. At least 37 people have filed lawsuits against Wester at the state level. The sheriff’s office declined to comment on the lawsuit.

The theoretical musing part of me has a fondness for the term “outlaw” in the old strict, even medieval, sense. To be declared “outlaw” meant one was completely without any umbrella of protection of the law, or recourse or recompense from any level of the state. Someone mugged you? Tough, you don’t exist.
People you victimized hunting you down with no consequences on them? Tough, you don’t exist.

@Badger,
That’s interesting. I did not know that. Cain was the first outlaw after killing Abel. The furtherance of this is in Biblical Law whereby some law breakers were put “without the camp”, to be at the mercy of the barbarians round about, and made to forage without trade from his own people. Without the camp, without the law, an Outlaw. I’m interested in the origin of this. The old ways are better ways.
