“And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”
Do you know what people think is at the Church? Religion is at the Church, and, sadly, they are correct. I always ignore religion and the questions people ask about God. Their questions and needs are not relevant, those are of this world. What they need is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the master instructor. Notice how Jesus seems to ignore the question of “when” and answers with “where” but by so doing, he answers both questions of where and when, and He also answers the much more important, and actual need, which is the unspoken question; How can we be saved?
Jesus doesn’t mean that the Kingdom of God is literally within the Pharisees that are standing in front of Him. “Within you” means, within reach, within your ability to attain. The Kingdom of God is at hand, is the same thing, it’s within reach. Now, mind you, we know that this attainment is through belief. Being a pro basketball player or a physicist might not be within you no matter how much you believe but many other things are including that exact spot in your soul where Jesus makes His home, His kingdom, if you would truly ask. The Kingdom of Heaven is another matter not for now, but you can know this too if you first find the Kingdom of God in you.
Jesus fed the 5000 and 4000 plus those men’s women and children (who kept their mouths shut and minded their business) because He had compassion on them. He didn’t feed them as a hook to get them to come, they came to hear His preaching and see His works, and they came because of Him, not for free food. The people who came followed Him out the cities without regard to their personal needs or how they might eat. In fact, they had no initial expectation of being fed at all.
This is why giving people free stuff to get them to come is the wrong motivation. If they won’t hear by coming what it is that Jesus has already done for them, paid in full, if that they would only believe, then go find them and tell them the Gospel where they are, at the uttermost parts of the earth. Stop creating little commies with free stuff and start, by the power of the Holy Spirit, making little Christs.
You are creating whole generations who misapprehend the purposes and mission of Christ by His first coming. In fact you are creating this ignorance both among the general public and hungry and even among believers. Jesus didn’t come to provide free welfare! He came to save souls. Do you know why lost sinners don’t first come to the Churches? Because they don’t even know that that is where they can find men full of the Holy Ghost who can show them how it is that might be saved by the resurrected Christ.
“For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.”
Ask any man if he’s hungry and he will at least consider if he could eat. People are always hungry. You will never stop that and you will always have the poor with you but if you know Jesus, you have a greater responsibility to learn how and share the gospel by showing, literally showing them in your Bible, quietly, methodically, and without false profession, how they might be saved because you standing there could be the last time that they have this opportunity to be saved. This verse is the urgency and priority of the things of Christ on this earth for His followers. Jesus first! Amen. And then whensoever do that which is good unto the physical needs of others.
Next time you have a scheduled feeding don’t give them food and tell them this:
“Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.”
And see how many do this:
“From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
And see how many do this:
“Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
“Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.”
And then stop giving people free stuff to feed your own ego about how good a person you are and how good your preaching must be because of nickels of noses. You are not Christ, you can do no miracle, and besides, gentiles don’t need a sign, they believe by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. If you want to feed the indigent, then feed the indigent and tell them the Gospel AFTER they eat, and try telling them about Jesus one at a time, one of one, teaching them and showing them and answering questions.
And are you then teaching the broken and even those with “mental health” problems, who come to believe how to pray that they might be fully restored by the power of Holy God, how their mind and heart might be broken no more, how they might be made whole? Or are you needing them to stay helpless to support your paycheck by dependency upon your “charity”? Because if they are saved, they should need your charity no more, if that they would only believe that the Christ can heal them and make them whole, and He can and He will if they believe. Amen.
Those convicted souls by the Holy Spirit who is sent by the Father are them that get saved, not the hungry in the belly. You’re wasting time and resources that could be spent finding those convicted souls, lost sinners in need of a Saviour.

Jesus made Peter go fish for the tax. If you wanted a miracle, you had to,”believe”.
“By the sweat of your brow, you shall eat the fruit of the earth”.
Jesus was a carpenter! He worked to feed his family.
We may not like it, but work is part of our future. And like Pa said, “If you don’t like doing it. Learn to do it fast, and right the first time. That way you spend less time doing it!”
No, Jesus wasn’t a socialist. There was always a cost involved. He paid the price for our sins!
