Lead Poisoning From Shooting
BY Herschel Smith4 years, 11 months ago
When my former Marine was in the work-up towards his Iraq deployment, and even after that, he was shooting 1000 rounds a day for more than a year. The author mentions 200-300 rounds per day. I have neither the time nor money for that since I don’t make a penny off of this blog. But if you’re able to put that many rounds down range, lead poisoning is a really big deal.

I really hate to admit it, but the guy does make a valid argument for PPE to reduce lead exposure. Not only does he present the problem, and why and how the problem occurs, but he also offers solutions.
I’ve always worn hearing protection while shooting – pretty much religiously. But never considered protection from lead exposure.
Yeah, my hearing is shot – but that’s from working around heavy equipment all my life without hearing protection.

Still not as bad as the lead poisoning down range.
It would be interesting to see an actual Scientific Study on the subject, however.
Also, the exposure most definitely depends on the type of round.
