And Speaking Of Huge And Unnecessary Corporate Conglomerates …
BY Herschel Smith5 years ago
Via Whiskey Tango Texas, this ridiculous news.
(Chase Purdy) With six agricultural giants on the verge of merging into three separate companies, consumers and farmers are feeling uneasy about the global implications and how it might impact the food system.
Top executives from Bayer, Monsanto, DuPont, Dow Chemical, and Syngenta today (Sept. 20) testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, making a case for why federal regulators should approve the mega-mergers, which stand to fundamentally reorganize global agriculture. (Executives from the sixth company involved in the consolidation, China National Chemical Corp., declined an invitation to appear at the hearing.)
The executives in attendance argued that the proposed mergers would combine their companies’ expertise and allow for greater efficiency in serving farmers and consumers. But whether that efficiency is worth the side effects of massive consolidation—possible price hikes and less competition in the marketplace—is an open question. In essence, should people put faith in three big companies to shepherd consumers and farmers into a world that can responsibly feed a growing global population?
I’m sure that’ll work out just fine. Make a conglomerate of the largest Ag-manufacturers and combine them in with Chinese owners.

If you have some inkling that modifying animals is bad, and surely you must question the modifying of human babies, you should have the same serious doubts about plants, especially those for human consumption.
I had been on the fence about GMO’s re: God’s word. I’m no longer on the fence. They are bad, we will be judged, the crops will fail, or perhaps the crops don’t fail they simply are devoid of nutrients (probably first, then they fail), and starvation will ensue. The earth will have its rest!
Before the Law was even given:
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day…And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day…And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”
From Deuteronomy 22:
“Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.”
Read all of Leviticus 26. Some excerpts:
“But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.”
“And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied. And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.”
From Luke 14: “And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?”
From Matthew 12: “How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days…How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.”
These two instances, from Luke and the first 13 verses of Matthew 12 are the most grossly misunderstood, and perhaps purposefully misapplied words of Christ by the American Churches in the whole Bible, other than Matthew 24 of course. The Lord did not abolish the Sabbath as good for us, and the earth, that it would go well with us. He cited some instances where Good Works are necessary, even demanded instead of the Pharisaical absurdities of working day and night to not do work. Christ is The Sacrifice, once for all, other than that, I didn’t get the memo about the Law being ended.
Man is not made for the Sabbath, the Sabbath is made for us and disabusing God’s earth of its created nature will have consequences. Is it a good work to create diverse seed? GMO are not crossbreeding, selective breeding, hybridization, or grafting. They are made in a laboratory by injecting diverse enzymes, into a nucleotide of a food stock, both plants, and oh by the way, that salmon you eat, that’s not salmon unless it’s wild caught.
There is no practical reason for GMO’s other than profit motive. Everything we will ever need is already here, it has been provided by Holy God, all we have to do is believe, by faith, that God will provide for us. I have seen God manifest in the earth, in people, even in myself. The reason that the American Churches don’t believe is because they are consumerists of God instead of being as Christ, and compelling them (the lost – Matthew 22) to come into the wedding. This is not demanded of us in some mystical unknowable future dispensation, the so called Great Commission is NOW. If God has never revealed His workings through you, and you can have much more than just a small taste here and there, than you are doing it wrong!!! You wicked, slothful one talent servants! (Matthew 26)
The earth will have its rest. Squeezing every last drop of mineral nutrients out of the ground will have consequences. You reject and profane Him by your disbelief and assuming that you shall be as gods thus making yourself a god over His creation AND created order. And besides, you can practically smell the cancer in them. If your internal alarms don’t ring about eating GMO foods, you have been damaged and separated from yourself, the first remedy for which is to throw your TV into a dumpster.
Making yourselves the Lord of the harvest is blasphemy. Is God the Lord of the harvest or not?
God’s earth will have its rest!
(The usual disclaimer: I have no special knowledge of what this may bring, I just read my King James Holy Bible.)

@Fred,
Gary North and R.J. Rushdoony have a lot to say about letting the earth go fallow for a period as the sabbath rest for the earth.
Similar to your comments.

Rushdoony is being read, slowly, it’s a lot to digest and I have many interests toward God. Obedience demands time and money which I’m happy to give. I’ve read the chapter on the Sabbath in Rushdoony’s first major work about the Law. I was going to search through it just now while considering this post, but the Lord, as is His way, has informed me over time through the careful examination of His word, that this GMO poison is bad, and it is poison not just to us but to the earth.
Reading skilled instruction upon this topic has solidified by my prior understanding, thanks be to God and to your prior recommendation(s) on the Law, Sir. I’m somewhat disappointed by Gentry on this topic but to his credit he points the reader to other men’s work that is much better. His “made easy” book on the Law is disorganized and frankly, I don’t care about the Westminster Confession, I’m sure those men were wonderful saints of God, no offense.
North is on my list.
I have a simple and hierarchical mind. I want a work, even a survey, that lays out the foundation of each instance 1. prior to God’s Law (if that exists, Genesis as above) and 2. in God’s Law, and then 3. in the Profits (or Psalms/Proverbs) as case(s) Law, and then 4/5. the NT case by Christ and/or His apostles. Rushdoony was the first instance of this idea I had run across, which speaks volumes about the teaching in the Churches of America. But his book is much too in depth to use as anything other than a multi-years long study if by preaching or classroom.
Simple, structured, organized! This would help the average Christian to understand our desperate need for applying God’s law today. Alas, I may have to write it myself, though I don’t think of this as my task toward God to perform.
It’s fairly easy, as I’ve attempted to do here many times, to make the case(s) that America’s woes are those of our own making, almost exclusively directly related back to our disobedience to God and specifically His Law. Of course, the well treaded ground, at least by me here, that the American Churches are Nationalized and will not point out our national failures and failings toward God even though, in my unscientific estimation a good solid third of God’s Word is about government and governance. Non-stop Waring, 70 million dead babies, GMO foods, the list is extensive. We are Judged. Somewhat out of context but we can make proper application “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Nobody is teaching the Christians to actually obey God, at least not in anything specific, and preach against the National Sins wrought upon us by Government(s)? Gutless hirelings, one and all, these American preachers are. (To others who may read this verse above: it is from Romans 10, it’s our post resurrection, apostolic commandment on the necessity and urgency of the Great Commission – Matthew 28, Acts 1).
