Handling AR-15 Malfunctions

I’ve never had any of these things happen to my guns, but then again, I’ve never had to put 500 rounds downrange in ten minutes. So there’s that.

Good instructional video, RE: “barrel rod, ” aka “bore rod” – a solid metal rod of bore diameter 3-4″ longer than muzzle-to-retracted bolt length – every maintenance kit should have at least one, but it’s not a “field tool” because of its length. What will fit in your pocket, or “field kit” is a stuck case removal tool, and it’s the only tool that will quickly remove a headless case, the rod won’t. Get two, one for the field kit and one for the maintenance kit, and practice with it before it’s needed under exigent circumstances (and, as mentioned RE: the bending of a buffer tube, couldn’t hurt to have a spare tube in the big maintenance kit).
Spare parts and tools are plentiful today. Tomorrow?

Training on an M16A1 in 1971 my experience was 400 rounds and jam.
Clean the weapon and then 400 rounds and jam. Over and over.
“Once bitten”; I won’t own one.

1971 was a LONG, LONG time ago. Lots of changes since then.
