Leupold Red Dot Optic

1X magnification, of course, obviously meant for a MSR. Decent price point: $365. Auto dot shutdown upon no movement for five minutes, total of 1000 hours on middle setting.

Hard pass.
It’s battery life is as bad as an Eotech and it weighs about the same too.
This screams Fudd to me.
If I wanted to spend almost $400 on a red dot I’m going to get either an Aimpoint or Trijicon.

I don’t think you’re going to get a Trijicon for that price. But I hear good things about the Holosun.

The MRO is around $460-ish with a mount and $410 w/o @ optics planet.
Aimpoint has their Carbine Optic for about the same price as this Leupold.
But the Holosun Micro Red dots are very good for about half that. Get one of the circle dot models, you can use the lower hash of the circle as your up close offset aiming point with ARs.

Have two Holosun optics and they are excellent. Loaded with features and much less expensive.

Easy to say no to that one. Leupold is another once-fine company which no longer interests me as much as it once did. Their management decided that civilians should not be allowed to buy certain lines of optics they manufacture, restricting them to mil.gov and LE customers. Despite the fact that the government wouldn’t have dime one to spend on anything without those taxpaying “civilians” these companies seem determined to mistreat or at least ignore.
There are a lot of choices in the optics marketplace. I’d rather steer my business to a company that treats its customers well, no matter who is signing the checks or paying for the product. For just a bit more green, the Aimpoint PRO is the obvious choice, and Vortex Optics make very competitively priced alternative as well in their Strike-Fire II red/dot, which is also selectable for green.

Based on price and reviews I mounted a Primary Arms red dot on my AR.
It was as accurate as irons and quicker on target. Unfortunately it proved unreliable.
While exploring replacement options I mounted a 4X compact scope w/ duplex reticle instead. It’s been there for quite a while now and the replacement optic is on hold indefinitely.
A “prism” type red dot of similar magnification might be an ideal compromise. If Leupold made one (with an uncluttered reticle) I would certainly consider it.
