I’ve said before that the CDC had one job, to anticipate, study, prepare for and respond in the case of infectious disease. They … had … one … job. So did the FDA. They failed, and miserably so.
Unless … they don’t really consider that their job at all. Perhaps they have a different one. Via Bill Buppert.

A survey shows that an overwhelming majority of doctors would prescribe Hydroxychloroquine to a family member with wuhan coronavirus, but Dr. Zack Moore, chief epidemiologist of N.C., won’t approve it for the state. The Nevada governor won’t approve the drug for use, but was found hoarding the drug. The regulations that stymied Trump’s response to Coronavirus are multitudinous, but of course, that’s what bureaucracies do.
And as the economy is about to collapse, most people are scared stiff to do anything but stay home and watch horrible movies on television, waiting for the vaccine to come out from the high priests of science.
As I posed at the beginning, what if it wasn’t really the job of the CDC after all to prepare America for a pandemic? What if it’s not really the job of the FDA after all to protect the safety and health of the public?

Nobody has to “approve” the use of chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine for off-label use, as for example it’s already used for lupus. State authorities have to actively ban the use of “TrumpPills”, as the governors I’ve heard of at least 5 states have, or effectively so in Ohio, where it can’t be used until its too late, or New York where it’s very limited.
Michigan Governor Half Whitmer backed down on that, but has also declared child car seats to be “unessential”, and the governor of Vermont has joined her in banning the sales of gardening supplies including seeds. As to the CDC/FDA I’ll add NIAID in the person of Dr. Anthony Fauci as another of the bureaucrats intentionally buggering up the system. Some of the reluctance or cautiousness on behalf of these agencies, I think, heralds back to the thalidomide debacle, but only some. The rest is the usual bureaucratic poop flinging and, in the case of Fauci, the Not Invented (or discovered, take your pick) Here syndrome which infects a LOT of these .gov research agencies.
When Fauci, in front of the entire nation, discredited Chloroquine, FOR DAYS, despite evidence of a peer reviewed study by a world renowned epidemiologist, I knew that he didn’t really care about saving people, unless the therapy was discovered and vetted in one of “his” shops.
If I was in Trump’s place, I’d have snaked that smarmy little ne’er do well off of the stage and deposited him at St.Elizabeth’s FOR THE DURATION just like FDR did during WWII to “journalists” and members of the .gov that tried to push their own policy in the face of a national emergency and contrary to the policy of the President.
I don’t care what his credentials are. At 78 and given his length of service in his present post, he’s well past his expiration date.
Of course the press, especially that jerk Acosta, from the Communist News Network and the Demonrats, would have howled for Trump’s scalp, which is why he didn’t act. But, the day will come, sooner rather than later, when Fauci’s services will no longer be required. Me? I’d have dribbled him down Pennsylvania Avenue with CNN’s camera’s in attendance.
The sad part is he’ll go off to write a book denouncing Trump for sundry policy blunders during the crisis like most of the rest of the touch holes that think that their policy or coarse of action is or would have been the best. Not that Trump’s been perfect, but he’s been nearly so.

He’s either a total idiot to not realize that his personally promoting a hopeful treatment would only get it banned for Americans, then likely thrown in the trashcan by researchers who for the most part, for the same political reasons, can’t have their papers endorse TrumpPills.
I don’t know of a single scientist in America who’s shown a fraction of the courage the people in the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center did in publishing in a Western/open site a genome sequence for SARS-CoV-2, which immediately got their center shut down for “rectification,” and who knows what’ll eventually happen to them. But their gift to the world was priceless, allowing us to immediately test for the virus.
Well, not really counting the US, where the CDC and the FDA sandbagged the rest of the country for 1 and 2/3rds months, and I’m finding it difficult to impute good motives to the latter. What possible good could be served by their requiring tests be able to distinguish between SARS-CoV, which died out, MERS-CoV, which isn’t infecting very many people, especially in the US, and SARS-CoV-2?
Except for the half-hearted and late travel PRC ban he can’t stop congratulating himself for, which at best compensated for the above testing mess that’s still crippling our response, I don’t see anything he did right in the early period when we could have kept this under control, he adopted the “it’s just the flu, bro” narrative until events forced his hand. Since then, well, again, see his sabotage of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.
