How To Clean Your AR-15 With Daniel Defense

I guess I’m a little surprised. He “cleaned” his gun completely without the use of any solvent. I’ve never cleaned a gun of any kind without Hoppe’s No. 9 at the ready.

I saw him take out the extractor pin. I didn’t see him put it back in.

When first issued my M16 A1 in Basic Training in 1970 the DI’s advised with some disgust
and advice not to tell an officer, that the best way to clean the thing was to take it into the showers and use soap and water.

CLP = **Cleans**, Lubricates, and Protects. As I understand it, CLP replaced both LSA and bore cleaner.

Hmm …
I don’t think I favor a solvent and oil all at one time.

^^ I suspect CLP is “good enough” for quick maintenance jobs. I prefer dedicated products for detail cleaning.
However, I pack a custom blend of CLP, Marvel Mystery Oil and 3-in-One in my range bag.

CLP is undoubtedly great for field use. It just seems there are dedicated carbon and copper solvents as well as lubricants that can do a better job and make faster work of cleaning and lubing at home.
