Thanks for posting this,I consider meself a paranoid idiot but when a person with Jerry’s skills/experience can make a mistake like this feel my paranoia is worth it.I own a 5.56 and a .300 BO,are clones excepting the uppers internally.I will only bring out one or the other and had mags specifically marked .300 only, then, found some marked from the factory with also a different texture premade and bought 10 of them,I still only bring one or the other or at least one is always bagged in vehicle where ever we are shooting,Good thing I do not have a 9mm and .40 that are almost twins,eh,on second thought, yep, one always stays imprisoned in carry bag in that case also.
For me at least seems mild paranoia a good thing, like always treating even a just cleared firearm as loaded, keeps avoidable bad things from happening.

James, same here. I make sure I use different color mags with those early FDE Magpuls installed on the bottom of the mags for the 300BO for visual and tactile. And keep ammo totally separate. I’ve seen the 300 BO kaboom videos.
I don’t have a 40, but I found several errant 9MM rounds in the bottom of a range bag I hadn’t used for several years the other day.
Back when I was an RSO, I found several 300 Win Mag cases that had obviously been fired in a 300 Weatherby Mag. So someone didn’t stop with just one…

I recently discovered 4 rounds of .380 ACP loaded in a Browning Hi Power mag. I have no idea how they got there. They were Winchester Ranger Law Enforcement Ammo – both the 9mm and the 380 and thus looked identical except for the OAL. Not sure why I decided to unload that mag, either…glad I did, though.
