NY malls can’t open without air conditioning systems that filter the coronavirus, Gov. Cuomo says
BY Herschel Smith4 years, 5 months ago
Via Glenn Reynolds, this bit of fascinating news.
The coronavirus’ particle has a diameter of about 0.125 micron, he said, pointing to recent studies. HEPA filters are designed to filter particles that are 0.01 micron and above, Cuomo said, a figure he based on a previous NASA study on HEPA filtration.
Oh dear. It’s really a shame when non-STEM people try to do STEM without one iota of training or education. The problem with this is that none of it is true, at least, not exactly.
To rehearse what we’ve discussed before, while he has his sources that the virus is 125 nm in diameter, there are other sources that put it at around 80 nm in diameter. Furthermore, when he says that HEPA filters remove particles down to 0.01 µm in size, he’s referencing a NASA study of HEPA filters that essentially aren’t in use anywhere but space vehicles. Without observing the testing and performing my own independent analysis of the data, I question the study, but let’s move ahead anyway.
Most of the HEPA filters available for industrial use are nuclear grade HEPA filters, which remove particles to 0.3 µm in size. This means that a SARS-CoV-2 virus is 80E-9 / 0.3E-6 = 0.27 the minimum size necessary for even the most expensive nuclear grade HEPA filters to remove it from an air stream.
Furthermore, these systems are extremely expensive to design, build, maintain, flow balance and test. The filter housing themselves must be sealed and tested, the HEPA filters must be disposed of as hazardous material, the HEPA filters must be procured (there is a marginal market for that since these systems are only used in biological labs and nuclear power plants). A TAB (testing and balancing) engineer must test them and flow balance them, and the fans are powerful compared to normal use industrial fans since the ΔP is much higher across these filter trains than an ordinary industrial grade filter system.
The testing involves injection of DOP (Dioctyl Phthalate) to test penetration of fine particles through potential tears in the filter media and especially bypass around the filters themselves due to lack of proper sealing against the frame of the filter housing. The testing engineers for this sort of thing reside in one place, i.e., commercial nuclear reactors and utilities which run them.
I could go on about this, but it’s embarrassing to folks who know nothing about STEM to weigh in like this on subjects way above their head. I’ve done air filtration engineering, TAB and testing of penetration before. I know these things by education, training and experience.
The governor is essentially telling businesses in his neck of the woods that they must go out of business. That is the only alternative. No store or mall will be able to afford something like this, or the highly paid personnel to install it, test it, monitor it and equip it. Finally, these systems, if installed, wouldn’t create a virus-free environment anyway. It doesn’t work that way. A virus is like any other contaminant, which means that buildup and depletion of contaminants (based on a production term and loss constant) would be modeled with an ODE (ordinary differential equation).
The point is that the concentration of a contaminant can be reduced based on the terms, but not made to go away. Belief in risk free living based on science is belief in a myth. But someone who was studied in STEM would already know this. Only non-STEM people believe that science can work magic for free.

As Andrew Anglin noted over at Daily Stormer, “Nipples” Cuomo is a sick, old man. Any male with Nipple rings (and it is clearly visible in photos) is either a pervert, gay, or both (oxymoron, I know)… and is totally unfit for public office.
It’s time we tell EVERY SINGLE GOP, that they will rule the way WE tell them to.
Tucker Carlson is right…for now.

One could not expect less from a man who let two hospital ships sit empty in NY harbor, sending flu victims to nursing homes, murdering hundreds of elderly in to process.
When the flu numbers started declining he declared that God had nothing to do with it. He gave all the credit to himself and medical personnel. But downstate NYers love him.
His brother, Fredo, recently declared that people don’t need God anymore. “…if you believe in one another and if you do the right thing for yourself and your community things will get better in this country. You don’t need help from above, it’s (Satan) within us.”
The whole family is an abomination.

You might want to think twice about your boy, Tucker. Carlson and Andrew Anglin controlled opposition pushing civnatism and conservativeInc and Anglin denies the biological reality of race.
Teacher-student statutory rape is better than the alternative, Carlson explained, noting “my best friend was involved in a relationship like that when we were kids. There are not that many options. So you’re a 15-,16-, 17-year-old boy. You are driven by biology to procreate, so you are either going to be inflicting your attentions on one of your peers… Or, you can have a safer, albeit technically illegal outlet, with a woman who knows what she’s doing. You’re not going to hurt her feelings. You know what I mean? This is harm reduction. This is like a needle exchange.”
He also once again defended women teachers having sex with boys as young as 13, arguing that “they are doing a service to all 13-year-old girls by taking the pressure off. They are a pressure relief valve, like the kind you have on your furnace.”
Defending statutory rape committed by women has been a recurring theme for Carlson. In a 2014 appearance on Fox News daytime gabfest Outnumbered, he discussed the same case. “It’s ludicrous we are calling this a rape. Are you serious?” he commented before blaming the teenage victim: “I’ll tell you what’s wrong to this extent—he went and tattled to the police and destroyed her life.” In another appearance that year on the same show, he described a teacher giving a 15-year-old student a lap dance as “the greatest thing that ever happened” from a 15-year-old boy’s perspective.
During a 2009 conversation about polygamist cult leader Warren Jeffs, who was convicted of felony rape as an accomplice, Carlson suggested Jeffs was only sent to prison because “he’s weird and unpopular.”
On Jeffs facilitating marriages between grown men and underage girls, Tucker said: “I just don’t think it’s the same thing exactly as pulling a child from a bus stop and sexually assaulting that child. The rapist, in this case, has made a lifelong commitment to live and take care of the person, so it is a little different. I mean, let’s be honest about it.” When the show’s co-host called the defense “twisted” and “demented,” Carlson responded by doubling down on his defense of Jeffs. He called the charges against Jeffs “bullshit.”
Jeffs was convicted of two felony counts of child sexual assault in 2011, for which he is currently serving a life sentence plus 20 years. Carlson suggested that if he were to “make the laws,” Warren Jeffs would not be in prison.
Twice he [Carlson] defended Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cult leader Warren Jeffs, a man who had taken a 12 year old as one of his 78 brides. Not only was Jeffs accused of personally molesting children—and audio of him raping a 12 year old he called his “heavenly comfort wife” was played at his trial—but he facilitated the rapes of other girls of a similar age.
“I love women, but they’re extremely primitive, they’re basic, they’re not that hard to understand. In my brief experience, you know what gets women going is arguing with them,” Carlson said in 2006. Carlson said that if a feminist says “men really need to be more sensitive,” a man should say, “actually, men don’t need to be more sensitive. You just need to be quiet and kind of do what you’re told.”
Advocating paedophilia and misogyny used to be a crime. On FauxNewz and the rest of the MSM they are normal.

And you and others can help those future scribblers. Gather up all the good books you can find, put them in plastic bags and wrap them up in plastic wrap. Then secure them in water proof ammo cans. Leave them with someone you can trust or bury them. Just like the Dead Sea Scrolls, they will turn up one day, hopefully in appreciative hands.
PS: I’m a lousy speller two.

The biggest fraud in history perpetuated by Orange Man.
Article IV (Article 4 – States’ Relations)
Section 4
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
The god emperor is not fulfilling his duties to the states. He has not only allowed each gov’ner to rule by fiat but has encouraged them to do so, violating the US Constitution and every state constitution and his oath of office. He keeps going further left. He is now advocating everyone wear a mask with more inherent health risks than benefits. And just like the nursing home fiasco people will die needlessly. But he never wears one.
The Democrat Party now has grounds for impeachment but their loyalty is to the mob not the Constitution. They are absolutely giddy about what Trump has done.
Obama created a banana republic that tried to railroad Flynn into prison. Trump with the flatten the curve shutdowns and helicopter money is creating a third-world country by wiping out small businesses and wrecking the supply chain. And the MSM has not mentioned cattlemen slaughtering beef, farmers pouring milk down the sewer and crops being plowed under because the market is shrinking.
His 4d chess has become a game Russian roulette.

@Captain. You have more cred in HEPA testing than I but I have a little from my RADCON shipboard support facilities engineering days. Yes, complex stuff, Brownian diffusion and deposit mechanisms can make your head hurt in the analysis. Money quote is this, however, “Belief in risk free living based on science is belief in a myth.” True dat. Next they will mandate ISO 4 or better cleanroom positive pressure vent systems for the convenience stores or personal bubbleboy positive pressure suits- ignorant madness.

Non-Pensant- Don’t presume to lump everyone with which you disagree into one pile, thereby negating what they may have to say, merely because you think you have a right to pontificate. At least I have that right, given to me by the laying on of hands…. And I must always think, ‘Is what I am saying, at least correct for this date, and this situation?’ Who is your governing authority, in other words? If it’s yourself, sorry. Not good enough.
Whatever their faults, the comments I made are germane to the topic, and deserve to be heard. I doubt we have little to disagree on, but I am not so much a fool, as to believe that by quoting sections of pieces of paper drawn up by fallible men in 1776-1791, are going to stop the anarchy- whether from BLM, or FEDGOV. In doing that, your appeal to authority fails. Does ANYONE in office these days, even PRETEND to care a whit for the Declaration OR the Constitution? I somehow doubt it, seriously.
Carlson and Anglin both have a voice these days, whereas (I am assuming) neither you nor I, do. So, when they help a point I am trying to make, I will quote them. Where they are wrong, I will not defend them. I told Anglin that, when he was still doing open comments, long ago. My king is Christ, and ANYTHING- (including and and all asinine attempts at Democracy) that conflicts with that allegiance, is anathema to all True Christians.

As to Penses’ comment on preserving books in plastic: Plastic does not last, it’s a polymer, and it degrades over time, eventually turning yellow and brittle, then into brownish dust. Ammo cans have a rubber seal, and those degrade over time, too. And then there’s the paper in books, too. If it’s produced from wood pulp, it has acid residue in it, and over the course of about 60 years will turn very dark brown and fall apart at the touch – that’s a 1960 copy of “Alas, Babylon”. I have a book printed in 1799 whose pages show no sign of discoloration – it was printed on hemp paper, acid-free. No foxing, no browning, nothing like that. So if you want to preserve books for a long time, make sure they’re printed on acid-free paper, first. Then seal them in a metal can with lead solder and put that in a stone box, like you might do for a “time capsule”. That’s your best bet in my opinion.
