Concealed carrying a firearm doesn’t confer absolute safety or guarantee that you’ll make it home after being in a “force on force incident,” as they are sometimes so dryly-described in legalese – but if the bearer of the firearm has the will and opportunity to use it, it does tilt the odds considerably that if your lifeless body is found, it will be amidst a pile of used brass cartridge cases.
As General George S. Patton was famous for saying,”No dumb bastard ever won a war by dying for his country; he won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his….” (with apologies for the harsh language). That wise advice applies in all sorts of conflicts, not just those in which Patton fought.
However, the sage observation of former FBI agent and one of the founders of behavioral profiling, John Douglas, also applies: “Sometimes, the dragon wins,” meaning that despite all of our efforts, good does not always triumph over evil in this life. The heroic knight in shining armor does not always slay the dragon; sometimes the dragon wins.
As the proprietor of this weblog has often noted, how we live matters – and so does how we die.
And the true warrior has already made peace with his impending death before battle is ever joined.

A triple shooting in Atlanta by armed protesters blocking the street at the BLM Wendys shrine to Rayshard Brooks left two wounded and an 8 yr old dead. “You killed your own” was the parents response. Out in the street with armed thugs and they think nothing will happen to them. The site is a mini Chaz. Private property seized by the thugs. An action ignored by the black Mayor and the pink Gov’ner. I guess the owner gave up his property rights as a donation to the reparations movement.
A recent headline reads “600 deaths in 6 Democrat cities in 6 weeks.”
They continue to eat their own but it is hardly ever reported.
