I can’t tell you how many damn gas blocks I’ve had to drill off barrels because they are way over torqued and Loctited.

Ditto here.

It wouldn’t occur to me to Locktight something that is, in one sense, modular and swapable, and upgradable. Why have parts kits and extras of things in that case? The days of pervasive parts and components will end, don’t know when, but it will end.

I usually buy barrels that are drilled for pinned gas blocks. I have, more than once, jigged up and drilled my own.
For barrels I”m not drilling, I’ll Loctite the gas block screws each and every time. Always. I’d rather drill a gas block screw and replace gas block due to damaged threads than have one go loose at the wrong time.
I’m not even talking about TEOTWAWKI: I”m talking about a match or a class. Three or four days off of work. Airline ticket. Hotel. Meals. Match Fee or, worse yet, class tuition. Ammo. It’s thousands of dollars any way you slice it.
