For pistol red dots, perfection of presentation so you predictably have the dot aligned every time is critical.

I question what value these things offer your average defensive shooter. I’ve seen some impressive videos of competition shooters. What is the advantage over a quality Fiber Optic front site? Other than you don’t need perfect presentation?

I have recently had a slide milled for an RMR. I am not sure that I will improve with the red dot or not. I was able to try one a friend has and at that time I was not able to get the hang of it. I think it is a training issue. I will see when I get an RMR mounted to my slide.
My theory is that with practice the red dot might make up for my old eyes. I find that as I age I am not able to get as good a picture of the front sight as I did when I was younger. I will see and report back as the opportunity allows.
To me the red dot should be faster with training as you have two points in space to align instead of three but time will tell.
