Jerry Shoots A “Grease Gun”

Yea it’s slow compared to today’s standards, but I want one. I’ve always wanted one since I was a kid.

I fired the M3A1 and loved it for the same reasons. My wife took it and shot a smiley face into a pumpkin with it. Very controllable, and virtually no recoil.

As a kid in the mid-late 1960s, while playing “Rat Patrol” and “Combat” outside, I would use a caulking gun with a cartridge of caulk inserted as a convincing stand-in for a real grease gun. The appearnce was similar in all important respects. The good old days. Never got arrested for playing with a caulking gun.

I’ve heard ‘350rpm’ for the M3 which is about 6/second. That video sure didn’t sound like 6/second. If, as Jerry says, it’s supposed to be 450rpm, that’s 7.5/second. This one sounded like ~250rpm, 4/second.
Even so, I want one, too. Not to shoot — I can’t afford that, and SHE would never approve the ammo appropriation — but to hang on the wall.

In the late 1970’s, in the US Army, we tankers were still issued the M3A1. We actually only shot them a few times. They were not very confidence-inspiring. The price of one, made by “Guide Lamp Co.”, was $110.00, or so we were told.

Larry Vickers considers the M3 Grease Gun one of his favorite WWII-era weapons, and if it is good-enough for Larry, etc. etc. etc.

Great video, Thanks Herschel. My favorite line “I think this shoots slower than my revolver”! Seriously, having shot the M3 Grease gun and the Thompson, I think we will all be grabbing for the Thompson!

No question that Jerry on any modern semiauto is way faster that a grease gun.

VTR drivers in Germany were issued grease guns with the vehicle since it was BII for them.
