Brief Thoughts On The NRA

Wasted opportunity.
I haven’t received begs for money lately from the NRA. Maybe they just gave up on me. Maybe I’ll start hearing from then again.
But Wayne wanted to pay for pretty girls to float in the swimming pool he rented, buy nice suits, pay for trips around the world for him and his wife, and buddy up with important people while he suggested new infringements on God-given rights.
The NRA rating system can’t be trusted to mean anything at all, they haven’t won a real fight in God knows how long, they’re in court defending themselves, the best and brightest hopes have left the board of directors, they jettisoned the ones who didn’t (like Lt. Col. Allen West), and they’re eaten up with bitterness and internal politics and squabbles.
They were completely absent this last national election (did you hear anything from them?), and they’re trying at the moment just to survive.
What a wasted opportunity. And all of this – every bit of it – was self inflicted.

Except for their complicity in negotiating away our rights, I suppose.
We need to stop trusting “Gun rights organizations” to preserve our rights. They may work initially, but then the bureaucracy takes over.
Focus on your elected idiots. A written letter to them will have more of an effect than $$$ to NRA or any of the others.

The NRA certainly stepped in it recently, but without them we will lose (most) gun rights.
It’s not the lobbying arm (NRA-ILA) but the day-to-day operations that protect these rights the best. It’s the sponsoring and certifying state and local clubs and ranges; the certification standards for most non-metro police and organizing the LE competitions. Recent expansion of the firearms market for women, and the youth shooting programs. Etc.
The NRA isn’t primarily about lobbying or court challenges, it’s intended to keep the shooting sports alive and in that they have been and are successful.
