Greenwood, SC, police chief weighs in on open carry legislation
BY Herschel Smith3 years, 9 months ago
A proposal to allow concealed weapon permit holders to openly carry their firearms passed a House Judiciary subcommittee by a 3-1 vote earlier this month, but the law enforcement community is not on board with the changes.
“When you go to open carry, I think you are creating more problems,” Greenwood Police Chief T.J. Chaudoin said. “I think it would cause too many problems with the general public.”
Chaudoin said having someone walking down the street with 16 guns on their belt could cause people to panic or be afraid.
“This isn’t the wild west where everybody walks around with a gun on their hip,” he said.
Law enforcement’s position should not be confused with a position that is anti-gun, the police chief said.
Okay, goober. I think we understand your view.
You haven’t been anywhere open carry is legal, so you think this causes the wild, wild west. You should travel a little.
You support the second amendment, but not really, and want people to hide their weapons.
You think open carriers are able to carry 16 guns on their hips. So this is just a joke to you.
A joke, as long as LEOs get to openly carry, because you’re special, and you do live in the wild, wild west. Unlike “the poors” who cannot be trusted to openly carry like the special ones like you.
You’d fit better in New York.

Hey T.J., thanks for showing your true colors, most cops pussyfoot around but you step right on that turd.
Drive out west and observe…Your kind are supposed to be good at that sorta activity. You see, out here in the West people aren’t afraid of guns. You might just see people talking politely while open carrying. We just had a rally for supporting our rights. Loads of people openly carrying not 1 but 2 guns, and no one had their feelings hurt.
It’s almost like cops are afraid if citizens open carry, there won’t be a big need for the cops to be around….

No. This is the 21st Century America where ANTIFA and BLM thugs can go about violently assaulting and in some cases murdering people while you “heroes” who are supposed to enforce the law allow it and in many cases encourage it to happen.
Also, we can’t help but notice, that the math is clear. In spite of Antifa and BLM and all of the other violent criminals roaming around free to do their deeds, the average person is in far more danger of losing their lives to LEOs, like you Chief, than they are are from criminals.

He’s a coward and in the wrong line of work. In my state there is no open-carry “law” because it’s absent completely – the law is mute on the subject, which is the proper state of affairs in a republic. Locally, the only issue our peace officers have is reminding dispatch from time to time that, absent any OTHER criminal conduct, they’re not going to respond to make contact with someone who gets reported by an hysterical cat-lady, as there is no reason to do so.

This man is not a coward Wes.
Thinking men like this police officer are cowards is a very dangerous pit trap to fall victim to. These men are controllers, hired for the exact quality’s they publicly display. They are your enemy. Be very wary of them, they will kill you and your entire family to insure they maintain their positions of power.
Mr Smith, you do a good service with your work.
You upset liberals/communists who want you gone
Please continue your efforts.
A ghost in flyover country
Hopefully this reaches you, if you don’t allow it to be seen publicly we understand

Just had a conversation with an 18-year veteran LEO where I live about open carry for 18-21 year olds, who can’t buy guns from FFLs but can posess them as gifts or from private party sales. He said he generally doesn’t address it in the course of normal interactions such as traffic stops. His attitude toward a gun on any law-abiding person’s hip didn’t seem any different from a cell phone. He also noted he was recently training a new guy out of CA during a traffic stop and afterward asked him why he pulled them over. “Well, he had a shotgun in the back window. We do felony stops for that back home” got him a good talking-to and remedial training. First words out of my mouth were WHO THE H*** HIRED THAT GUY?

@Just me I understand your premise sir, and agree what could come from someone like that. I will maintain, however, that they are still ultimately cowards as to their duty. It is why people like that, in a uniform or a suit, wish to maintain a monopoly on the bringing of violence. But I hold no illusions as to what they’re capable of.
