The Benelli has been used by the military for awhile and is for certain a fine weapon. The Beretta is most likely a good serious use weapon as well. For me the Benelli is just out of my price range for a shotgun. I have too many other priorities that need attention and dollars. The Beretta is much less money but it just does not interest me.
I fill my shotgun needs with a well worn Remington 870 Police Magnum and a Mossberg 590 A-1. They are obviously slower than any semi-auto but they are both beasts, especially the Mossberg. Just my thoughts. If I was rich I would have an M4.
I’ve had great luck with the Stoeger M3000 Freedom Defense model. It’s basically the Benelli owned subsidiary’s replica of the M2. It has Benelli’s inertia action, and takes Benelli parts. MSRP is about $700. Comes with Ghost Ring & Fiber Optic sight combo along with an integral picatinny rail. Don’t sell it short; it’s a great shotgun! I have the Beretta A400 and it is awesome. The way it shoots, comes apart, cleaning, definitely a first class gun that was very well thought thru. I shoot clays with a friend that has the Benelli and the loading gate has bit him several times, once drawing blood. He now respects the fact that the loading gate likes to fight back. If I’m not mistaken, CZ has created a copycat of the Benelli that is running around $700.

Mike mentions that in his review.

I have the 1301 Comp as an all-around shotgun – like it a lot. Didn’t even consider the Benelli as it was in a whole different price range.

I don’t own any tactical shot guns but I’m a Duckaholic and I own lots of duck guns. Beretta owns Benelli. Benelli’s claim to fame is it’s Inertia Driven Action. You can’t keep the thing from going bang. I’ve had rice stocks sticking out of the damn ejection port and the gun was still cycling. I also own two Beretta’s with the same Inertia driven action so I’m not sure you are not comparing essentially the same gun here.

Beretta 1201 fp is another inertia driven option, police tactical shotgun. They are getting a little harder to come by but they turn up now and then in auctions and surplus sales. I got mine a few years back for just over 600 from out of state dealer with shipping and ffl transfer to my local gun dealer.

I have the “cheap” Beretta Outlander A300 for my general purpose gun. I’ve been successful with it upland hunting, duck and goose hunting, and sporting clays. I’ve never had a faster, more reliable semi-auto shotgun.
Like Brad said above, I think we may be comparing the same guns..

The 1301 is on my “if I won the lottery” list.
