The .454 Casull: History and Performance

Buffalo Bore makes this round hot.
I do wish that Henry would make a Walnut furniture rifle in .454 Casull. The alternative is an absolutely beautiful rifle by Big Horn Armory.
But their price is too steep for me.

Rossi makes a nice lever gun in 454 at a reasonable price.

I’ve had one for several years and am very happy with it. Just know that it will not cycle 45 colt, so you’ll have to use the real stuff for practice.

Last Spring my buddy finally got his presentation grade Big Horn in .500 b/c surgeries prevent shooting his revolver any more. It is indeed a beautiful rifle worth the money if you have that kind of money for a rifle.
But so far it’s been a disappointment as we’ve gotten at best 6-inch groups at 50 yards with the ghost ring sight. It’s currently back at the factory getting fitted for optics, won’t be ready for hunting next month, and will become expensive wall art if won’t minimum come down to 3 MOA.
FWIW I’d just carry my AR-10 or M1A Scout if my 44 Marlin weren’t enough rifle.

I don’t have a .454 Casull, but did acquire Buffalo Bore rounds for my .38 Super 1911. 147 grain hollow points, 1150 fps.

@Furminatot,
Well, a lever action rifle will never be more than a 2 MOA gun. 6-inch groups at 50 yards seems like a wide spread.
Was this off-hand shooting or was this bench rest?
I would think that optics would bring that group in much tighter.
