Some Taliban Ditch Their Rifles For M4s

TOKYO, Aug 17 (Reuters) – The Russian Kalashnikov AK-47 and its derivatives have long been the assault rifle of choice for militant groups because of their rugged design, but some Taliban fighters are trading them in for captured U.S. guns as Afghanistan’s government collapses.
Video and pictures published by the Taliban on Twitter and elsewhere show fighters carrying M4 carbines and M16 rifles discarded by Afghan army units. Other images show Taliban forces capturing abandoned government vehicles.
Because it’s a better rifle.

Herschel: While I agree the AR-15 platform is a technically better rifle than the AK-series, it doesn’t hurt the Taliban that the US left behind millions of rounds of ammunition, along with the spare magazines and repair parts to keep the Afghan National Army in business.
And it is all free for the taking.
Who needs F-15’s and Nukes?

Seems the US taxpayers funded the supply of actual military “assault weapons” free for the taking by actual terrorist types while the same controllers affiliated with the TPTB wish to remove the possession of legally purchased civilian versions of said rifles from the law abiding citizens of this country.
