30-30 Shooting And Reloading

For the reloader, it was his first time shooting a lever action 30-30. He did well (missing only once), and that’s expected. I find the 30-30 easy to shoot, easy on recoil, and powerful enough to take anything I want to take. I think the rifle and cartridge are a pure joy.

He hits the target at 55 yards using just the iron sights…impressive.

If you like shooting the 30-30 you damn well better be a reloader. The stuff is currently made of Unobtainium.

Yea, Ammoseek shows it’s a bit sparse out there.

I had trouble with case necks splitting on reloading after just a few loads, but the solution to this was easy, to lubricate the neck with an oil-soaked Q-tip after lubing the case. An experienced reloader friend had suggested annealing the case necks by standing them up in a pan of shallow water, heating the necks briefly with a torch and then tipping them into water but this did not cut down on splitting – maybe I had gone about it the wrong way.
