Good And Bad 1911s

The first rule of gun club is that you don’t talk about gun club. But I will say this much. I agree with Tim that Dan Wesson makes a very good 1911. Dan Wesson is owned by CZ now. That was a good purchase by an already good company.

I bought a used Kimber Pro Carry 2 a few years back just for the simple reason i did not posses a 1911. I had owned many 1911’s in the past but had become enamored with the hi-cap crowd.
Well that Kimber turned out to be a high maintenance temperamental little cuss. But with proper lubrication, Wilson 47D mags and a Wilson recoil spring assembly she gained some semblance of respectability in my eyes
I guess i was spoiled on the European staple guns and expected miracles and oblivious to the well known fact that some platforms require a lot more TLC than others.

I am not a 1911 guy (even though I’ve got one) and I found that to be a really fascinating video. Thanks for posting it.

After owning a dozen or so 1911s, I have kept only the best four: an early SA 1911-A1, a Colt Combat Commander, a Kimber SS Compact, and most recently, a Para Elite Commander.
The Kimber (made in 2000) is my favorite- I have mentioned it here before. Kimber enjoyed a good reputation at that time. These “factory customs” were developed to address function issues on old, worn (and some new) service pistols used in competition.
Sorry to see Kimber’s quality has slipped since then.
1911 guys already know this, and others can visit the various forums for more info.

CZ owns Colt now too. Maybe they can fix them.

^^ Maybe.
But it’s a crowded market these days. Due largely to Colt relinquishing their share, which they should have dominated.
Any Colt 1911s will have to compete with the well-regarded CZ/Dan Wesson 1911s.
They might concentrate on the Colt revolvers; they show some promise.
CZ offers only one revolver at present:
