Rifles From Shot Show 2022

Field & Stream has some of the newest arrivals.
We had previously discussed the value of traditional Walnut stocks as heirlooms to pass down to your sons. The latest releases have that – a beautiful Benelli for more than $2000.
There are also some very light rifles, carbon fiber stocks combined with carbon fiber barrels – a Weatherby for more than $3700.
There are some less expensive rifles too, e.g., Connecticut Value Arms (CVA) has one for less than $700.
But just my, my, my goodness, these rifles on the whole are so very expensive. Nice walnut and light carbon fiber parts cost a lot of money.

Yeah, and when they sell 12 all year, the marketing mavens who came up with the bright idea still won’t get fired.

I would have loved to attend SHOT Show but as a small homebased FFL I just can’t justify the cost of going to Vegas. It would be nice if they would have the show in other locations around the country. We will see how much of the new stuff materializes, I am still waiting for the Palmetto State JAKL we were promised in January of 2020

Nothing at all wrong with my Tikka T3X compact 308 at a little over six pounds and 700.00 price tag. It will shoot with any of those 2-4 thousand dollar rifles.

I’m sure it will, which is one reason why firearms aficionados are today living in a sort of golden age of affordable performance. If you are well-off and want to buy a fancy $2,000-3,000 custom or semi-custom rifle suitable for hanging over the mantle or some sort of other display, then go right ahead… but if you want a high-quality hunting arm capable of better accuracy than you are, you needn’t spend that much money.
It wasn’t all that many years ago that getting a sub-moa bolt-action rifle with a cold hammer-forged free-floated barrel, match-grade trigger, bedded action and stock, and other high-end features required spending upwards of a thousand dollars, but in recent years, these features have filtered down to mid-class and even budget firearms such as the Ruger American line and competing brands in that same market segment.
It isn’t just hunting, either. Mac at Military Arms Channel has done a series of videos on building up a precision 1,000-yard capable rifle and scope combo for $1,000 or less. As proof of concept, he used it to ring steel at that range with boring regularity….
