If I ever found myself Scrooge McDuck wealthy, a 160th style air wing & a flight of A-10’s would be on the shopping list.

It’s been more than 20 years now, but we were training with them at Ft. Campbell. The Warrant Officer pilot showed me his bird, just before they went to shoot. He explained that he dialed in the miniguns at whatever range, and when this was done, he would make a cross mark with grease pencil on the canopy bubble. That’s the gunsight.
They launched and made passes at the targets on the range. All hits.

I could see them going to a NOTAR (No Tail Rotor) for more safety, not necessarily for troops but environmental, i.e. doesn’t matter if the NOTAR goes into a tree canopy (in fact, it is one of the selling points). In fact, McDonald Douglas (bought Hughes) was the developer of NOTAR, see the MD520N.
