Choke Tubes for Home Defense Shotguns
BY Herschel Smith2 years, 10 months ago
Continuing his great video content and presentations, Chris Baker at Lucky Gunner discusses chokes for home defense shotguns. Sure enough, as soon as he said Lucky Gunner had gotten a shipment of Federal Flight Control in and it may be gone by the time this video was viewed, yep, they’re out of it.

Turkey hunters are already set for home defense. For the best shotgun choke tube available, I suggest looking at Indian Creek choke tubes, especially the Black Diamond Assault choke:

If you have already found the turkey load (preferably #4 shot) that your shotgun likes then you are good to go. Nobody is going to function after getting hit with a wad of #4 in their face.

I have been preaching the wonders of flight control for several years. Great stuff.

It can still be gotten from the Federal web site, but my goodness it’s expensive (more than $2 per round).

– Yes, a lot more…@ $2.60 per round.
Luckily, I started putting up Federal Flight Control #1 buckshot about 10 years ago whenever I saw it available. Now I have 200 rounds of it which I have (mentally) labelled “only for emergency use”.
As I have not seen #1 buck in Flight Control for sale now for quite a few years, I wonder if Federal still produces it or not?

I really lucked out – I used to have access to their employee program so, once I realized how great it is, I ordered a rather large pile. Of course, I’m too nice so most of it went to friends and family…

I admit I’m pretty lazy about my home defense choke. What the last choke I used on the range is what my home defense shotgun has on it at any given time. Somewhere between cylinder if I was shooting slugs, and Improved Modified if I was shooting trap.
Federal does have some flight control ammo on the own web page.
