Missouri Prepares to Undo a Bad Gun Control Law

I remain extremely happy with their strength of position on the 2A preservation act. It looks like patriots in Missouri are preparing to shoot down a bad gun law.
Several bills heard in the House General Laws committee Wednesday morning take on pandemic- and church-related restrictions on firearms.
Among the few gun restrictions left in Missouri is a ban on concealed carry in churches, among a handful of other locations. Under current law, legal gun owners with carry permits may bring their guns if they receive permission from church officials.
Two bills, sponsored by Rep. Nick Schroer, R-St. Charles County, and Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, would flip the law, allowing parishioners to legally carry firearms unless the church specifically prohibits it.
I didn’t know about this Missouri law, but the replacement makes perfect sense. I recognizes the right of carry, while elevating property rights to the top.
If a church is anti-liberty and doesn’t allow firearms, they should have to post like businesses or offices or any other buildings do. This would also be a convenience for firearms owners. If a church doesn’t allow carry, it helps them to turn and walk away when seeing the sign at the door.

And a no gun sign is handy for criminals to know where the easiest targets for violent crime are. It’s a great convenience for them.

If we allow that the right of the owner of a premises to control his own property is so important that it trumps the right of self defense, then we must require the property owner to be fully responsible for the the security of those who are thus unarmed including being financially responsible. This balancing issue is never mentioned let alone addressed in law, except for sensitive areas like the sterile zone in public airports, etc. Since no church has the will or the means to provide sufficient security for everyone on premises, we must allow individuals the option of doing so or we have in essence abridged this inalienable right.

I have no duty to satisfy your rights on my property. The right to refuse service and to not associate are absolute. Forcing people to provide for your rights is communistic. Don’t like it, don’t come on my property.
Of course, those are just arguments on paper. I don’t care who has a weapon or where in reality.

Almost all “name brand” churches prohibit firearms at their services. This is almost always easy to find on their national web sites. If a local church were go against that policy and tell their members it was okay to carry, then the locals would be sold down the river along with the members involved, should a shooting happen.
Arkansas used to have one of those “no carry in churches” laws; about half of the churchgoing people I know in meatspace changed churches or quit attending altogether over the issue.
