The Sunshine Protection Act
BY PGF2 years, 8 months ago
Finally, the government does something right!
The Senate on Tuesday unanimously approved a bipartisan bill that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent in 2023 across the U.S. and end the practice of changing the clocks twice a year.
The legislation quickly – and surprisingly – made it through the chamber by unanimous consent, which can be uncommon in the split 50-50 Senate where any one senator can object. The Sunshine Protection Act, which garnered support in both parties, means Americans would no longer need to set their clocks back an hour when returning to standard time in the fall.
Call your House Reps.

Congress was established to write laws and create a budget.
They “release” 2,000+ page ‘bills’ in the middle of the night requiring a vote within hours – clearly nobody is actually reading this tripe.
They use Omnibus spending bills instead of passing a real budget, and have done for years.
They have 2 jobs, and do neither of them.
Why does anyone listen or pay attention to these people is beyond me??

Doesn’t affect us, though having the east coast +6 hours makes it harder to do business.

I have been railing against DST for decades. So why am I not happy? Becuse, as usual, the controllers got it wrong. The proper law would return the US to the time zones based on GMT, NOT the artificiality of “DST”, which does nothing positive for anyone any more, as if it ever did. Clock time is a construct to begin with, and to codify something bon-traditional is only consistent with adhering to the fallacy of creating “the new normal”.

Like the meme said; if congress can pass a law that gives us more light by turning back the clocks. Why can’t they just pass one to push back the thermometers on global warming?

Complain when you fly to the other side of the world several times a year, or make ocean passages with the time advancing every day or two.
If this passes, expect the time zones to be tinkered with every few years looking for the offset du jour.
