Open Bolt vs Closed Bolt Firearms

I think he does a good job in this video.
So there you have it. This is why we can’t have nice things. The ATF.
And sooner or later the U.S. won’t be able to manufacture state of the art open bolt weapons systems for the military. No one is working on that because it’s illegal.
The civilian market drives the military market, and most advancements are first found in the civilian sector.

Most regulations seem to exist to prevent people from doing things that make sense.

Interesting you say consumer market drives the military. I always saw it the other way. Not just because of Mr. Stoner, but Berettas, 1911s, etc. Many cartridges were developed for military/police market, and adapted to consumer. True some have gone the other way, but at least in terms of initial offerings, I see commercial models of military gear, not military models of commercial items.

Government doesn’t invent anything. America is languishing under regulations and not just firearms. Of course, when the war comes lots of new guns will be invented.
