Testing The Savage 110 Magpul Hunter
BY Herschel Smith2 years, 7 months ago
The shooters tested the rifle out as follows.
That’s an accurate gun for MSRP of $1045. Not a single 3-round group over 1 MOA.
I am posting this in the spirit of keeping you informed of the current firearms on the market and how they’re testing, as well as what they cost. This looks like a good deal.
But then there is the old issue over these pages of desiring something with classic, elegant wooden furniture. It would make a better heirloom, but be much heavier to carry.

I’ve tried twice to appreciate the Magpul Hunter stocks, both times I ended up dumping the rifle I put them on. They are easy to install, light and ergonomic. The drawback to the Ruger American being that you must remove a screw and take off the cheek riser to get the bolt out for cleaning.
I love Magpul AR furniture but I just can’t get past this stock’s gross insult to aesthetics. I feel icky whenever I get near one. If the East Germans designed a polymer stock they couldn’t outdo Magpul for sheer ugliness.

A shame that 6.5 Creedmoor never returned to pre-covid prices.

So it’s got an 18″ barrel which is stiffer in the same profile than a longer one. Like the author, I’d like to see this with a 22″ in 6.5 CM and at least 20 in 308. Some of us don’t have suppressors and so don’t care about length.
I never really had a problem navigating through thick timber and brush with a 24-26 inch barrel.
Never had to deploy a rifle quickly out of a vehicle. And if I did, I’d likely want a self-loader. YMMV
