Back in the ’90s I worked next to a Morbark 30RXL whole tree chipper. It had a disk that was 7′ in diameter and was powered by a V12 Cat diesel that was rated at 1000 horsepower. It could chip a 25 ton load of chips in 15 minutes or less, with the right wood, and burned 15 gallons of fuel per load. It was a beast.
We cleaned up a lot of Forest Service ground back in the days before million acre fires started becoming the norm.

The stories I could tell you about Forest Service personnel making it up as they go along.
