Streamlight Rail Mounted Green Laser/White Light TLR

First look at Recoil.
The larger model (the only one that would interest me) torches at 1000 lumens. I’ve never used a laser before.
I can see the use in a laser, but a real need to zero it with the optic at the range, as well as the need to limit the use in a gun fight (for fear of flagging your position).
The price is a bit cheaper than the equivalent SureFire models (lumens, that is).

Lasers have their uses. A lot the tactical equipment is useful but you have to train with it and maintain it and it all adds weight. For me most of it is not worth the squeeze. This only applies to my situation. YMMV. I don’t see how a laser gives me enough of an advantage to consider installing them on my defense guns.
The police use them as an intimidation tool. There is an argument to be made in favor of that. It might cause a criminal to back down when lit up by a laser. That might work for a homeowner in a break in as well. Use of the laser might make the criminal run away and save the homeowner having to shoot someone.
I will stick with a good firearm, a white light and a good optic. As far as the Streamlight brand, I have found them to be solid lights. I have surefire lights and Streamlights. I have to say I consider the Surefire better lights. But they are much more costly. Streamlight gives me a good tough light, that I have never had fail, at about half the price of most surefire products.
I have an old Streamlight TLR1 that I used back when I was still working for the blob. That thing has been used and abused over a long period of time. Most of the finish is badly worn and that old model has about half the lumens that would be considered adequate today. But it still runs fine.

I have had a Streamlight TLR 7 and a couple of PolyTac X handhelds for a few years and they have lasted a lot longer than my Surefire Executive. Extremely reliable, idiot proof but battery hungry.
For what it’s worth my son in law works for a local agency and every one recommended the
Streamlight brand hands down.
Not having a solid source of good illumination 24/7 is merely setting yourself up for failure.

A Streamlight TLR 2 mounted at 6:00 on the gas block of my AR worked well.
Controls were easily reached by index finger of support hand. Light output was more than adequate- a centered hot spot with considerable peripheral illumination. I found the laser less useful than the light.

I have 2 rifles with the Streamlight Protac rail mount HL-X, 1,000 lumens. One about 3 years old, and one about 1 year old. Both work fine, no issues. I had originally had one set up with the wire tail/push button switch, but it seemed like it was in the way, and rarely used, so I switched it back to just the light. Never did use a laser, although my wife likes her handgun with a laser.

I recently bought the TLR 8 w/green laser for my G21.
It fits nicely and the buttons are easily reachable.
I’m having a hard time getting the green dot half a sight (my front sight measured) lower. It just doesn’t want to move lower so I might have a dud adjustment. It shoots fine but my OCD wants that half sight lower. I’m going to screw with it again at some point. The left to right/right to left adjustment works as it should.
The flashlight is brighter than all get out.
If I encounter a bad guy, that green laser at night from 20 yards and closer will be the bees knees.
Definitely recommend it if you have a G21.
