Bear Defense With A Handgun

I don’t know where this was. I paused the video enough times to see that he was using a pistol. I’m guessing that this was a sow with two cubs on the larger end of things and felt a bit threatened.
He did the right things as best as I can tell.

Shooting when he did was the right response. You don’t wait when a bear is charging. They move far too fast. The only questions being did he hit the target and what caliber was he using. Be a shame if he wounded the bear to have it wander off and die a slow death.

Mr. 357 magnum can stop the threat, because even with the thick skulls the bear has, it’s no match for 1200 fps JHP’s!
Better living through Superior Firepower

I do think he hit the mamma since she did a 180 and checked her six while running away. He did the right thing but it’s sad, she has three cubs. Of course she could survive depending on the location of the hit.
We had a cat growing up, well lots of cats, but one was found to have a .22 round in her when being x-rayed for an unrelated matter. No telling when she got shot. We left the round in her, more trouble than it was worth to take it out. She lived to a ripe old age.
