Catholic Evangelizes repentance from sin and proselytizes spreading the Gospel; the church apologizes.

I didn’t know Catholics evangelized the souls of men. Sheehy got in trouble, and the church apologized. So, no, Catholics don’t, in fact, evangelize for Christ?
In a statement, Bishop Ray Browne apologized to “all who were offended,” adding “the views expressed do not represent the Christian position” and the message was not appropriate for a “regular weekend parish Mass.”
We agree the views expressed in the clip don’t represent the Christian position. And that’s the problem. We might have worded it differently, but what Sheehy said is Bible 101. We’re offended that he didn’t receive a standing ovation.
Browne’s Monday statement was released to appease parishioners who were outraged by Father Seán Sheehy’s homily delivered to mass-goers in Listowel on Sunday.

Bishop Browne needs to apologize to Christ! Are there any Catholics here who can explain, from the church’s position, why what he did is wrong? Is it wrong?

I haven’t been a (practical) Catholic for over 40 years, but what I got from this is pretty simple and straight-forward: we love the sinner and hate the sin. That’s what he said: “We have an obligation to seek out the lost” (and bring them back).
His Bishop should be excommunicated.

As a former Roman Catholic, I can assure you that the bishop is a heretic according to any official doctrine that I’ve read. That said, I’ve found it much easier to find a community of believers on the protestant side of the fence.

As you know, I am not a ‘former’ Catholic. What the priest said is dead-on w/r/t sin and judgment, and w/r/t “what is sexual sin.”
The Bishop should be flogged and given a chance to confess and repent by spending the rest of his life in a desert cave; or–if we want to be kind–a desert monastery.
I can’t imagine that you differ from that priest in the area of ‘what is sin’ and ‘where sin leads,’ so I’ll guess that your disagreement has to do with the sacrament of Confession and/or whether predestination trumps all. But that’s a discussion for a different day.

Of course, Fr Sheehy is right. Abortion, transgenderism, and homosexuality are all sins, mortal sins that separate you from God. He is right, ‘sin is destructive and leads you to hell’. This is what the Catholic Church teaches. His Bishop is the one, like Herschel, dad29 & Frank said is in the wrong and will surely face God for his deeds as it says in James 3:1. God bless the priest for standing up for what is right. One of the reasons my ancestors left England because it was full of Bishops like Ray Browne… What a joke.

@dad29,
I don’t know much at all about Catholicism. As to predestination, I also don’t know who is saved and who isn’t, though we can begin to see a future in heaven for some that bear fruit on earth, I suppose.
Where sin leads is a chicken and egg situation, but one definitely came first.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” – Romans 5:12
Sin led to the ushering in of death and hell for man. And now all are sinners, bound for death and hell.
That one man was Adam. Adam sinned (Genesis 3); all are now under the sin curse that we inherited from him. The very ground is cursed of God for that sin (Gen 3:17), and that’s why all things die. (…sin entered in, and death by sin…) because of this inherited sin from adam, all men are born sinners, condemned to hell already.
“17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” – John 3:17-19
Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world because we’re sentenced to death and hell already. We don’t sin, causing us to deserve hell, though we do. We love darkness rather than light because we are sinners, which makes our deeds evil.
*We sin because we are sinners. We are not sinners because we sin.*
All were born cursed to hell (condemned already); only the blood of Christ is payment sufficient for atonement from sin and redemption with God, and only in Christ by His resurrection is eternal life. Eternal life was the plan from the start before sin in the Garden wrecked it all.
Jesus has partially restored all things, offering forgiveness with God and a home in heaven, but the complete restoration, no more curse, awaits those who have placed their hope in Him for the glorious end. A new heaven and new earth are coming (Revelation 21:1-3).
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” – Revelation 21:4
When I finally heard sin adequately defined, it started to click for me. I had a defined word under which I could create the category of all my rebellious and wicked behavior over the years. And I realized; I’m a sinner; that’s what’s wrong with me! It was somewhat of a relief to finally know what my problem was. But no relief compares to the realization of the atonement Christ paid to Father God for me. Jesus paid my sin debt. It was so simple; I just believed God would forgive me and Jesus could save me. I positively believed it. All the guilt and shame are gone. I owe Him so much that I love to serve, looking for the great day of His appearing.
Though all men are condemned already, you can be saved through Jesus Christ.
Today I fail often, but He is faithful and just to forgive if I repent and confess (1 John 1:9).
