John Lott’s latest on CCW
BY PGF1 year, 11 months ago
At SSRN. He finds that, despite 24 states having gone to permit-less concealed carry, the number of CCW licenses continues to expand.(He doesn’t count Alabama, since it will only go permit-less on January 1).
Outside of California and New York, 10% of the adult population now has a permit. Even 4.5% of Illinois has one.
Lott’s data is the most complete and accurate out there. The abstract is one short page; read it all. These numbers and trends are going to matter, both pro and con, and enemies within will use them in an attempt to control gun owners. Hopefully, the NRA will be gone soon; that’ll help, but there will be other “friends” gun owners don’t need.

CC permits have some uses people realize can be advantageous
Reciprocity with states that aren’t permitless carry likely being #1, and the states that accept a CC permit in place of a NICS check #2.
Also, as is the case in Missouri, you can have cities that are allowed by state law to prohibit OC and prosecute ‘flashing’/unintentional exposure unless you have a CC permit.

Still waiting for HPD to decide what hoops we need to jump through.

Your comment about ‘friends we don’t need’ bears repeating.
I believe this is what happened in PA, but even if I am wrong, our enemy is quite capable of running a candidate on BOTH sides of the ballot. Why fight a fight when you can win no matter who looses? The NRA has given away more rights than it ever defended… beware a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Good points Miles!
I also recommend going for a ‘lifetime’ permit if an option in your state (costs aside). That way they will have to invalidate it rather than just making renewal harder/impossible.
