U.S. Firearm Companies Made Over 13 million Guns in 2021

The data are held for a year; 2021 was the last full year for which data has been released. 2021 represents a 19 percent year-over-year increase from 2020.
The latest statistics from federal regulators point to a big jump in production for the most recent year available.
The current Annual Firearms Manufacturers and Export Report, released by the ATF late last month, covers the 2021 calendar year. The finalized AFMER is purposely a year behind to protect industry secrets and to allow for all of the data to be compiled. The total figures for 2021 amounted to 13,129,493 firearms of all types– pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, and miscellaneous.
The data from the source includes the top 10 pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotgun companies and a catchall miscellaneous category. Ruger may be the top overall firearms manufacturer in the US that year and is the top rifle manufacturer. Surprising is Maverick Arms of Eagle Pass, TX, owned by Mossberg. I would be interested to know what folks who own or have shot a Maverick think of them.

I have both a Maverick 88 and a Mooseberg 500, as well as an AOW M500 SWD put out back in the mid 80s. The only real difference is that the 88 has a ‘standard’ cross bolt safety on the triggergroup and the 500 has the switch on top of the milled out receiver.
The 88 is standard with a plastic buttstock and grip on the pump pinned to the action bars instead of wood and the 500’s pump assy is three pieces that allows the grip to be changed out. I have been told that the newer Mossbergs now have the same type of 2 piece pump assy as the Mavericks, but haven’t yet had my eyes on one to confirm that.
All parts interchange, or at least they do on my 40 year old 500 and the 10 year old 88.
Except for the safety you really can’t tell the difference between the two.

There are some pretty impressive endurance tests of the Maverick 88 on youtube. So far, I haven’t seen one be defeated. Plenty of cheap Turkish shotguns have failed, though.

I bought a Maverick 88 new a few months ago. Shoots very well and with an Opsol adapter you can use the mini shells. Mine functions reliably with the adapter even under rapid fire (pulling the slide back under recoil and pulling the trigger as soon as it’s forward and back on target). With the extended magazine you can put an awful lot of mini shells in it.

There is a new style of adapter from Defender Tactical. It allows the use of all lengths of shells from 1 3/4 to 3 inch without having to remove it. I’ve got them and they work very well.
