Ryan Muckenhirn on Rifle Optics

As I’ve said before, I’d find Ryan interesting if he was talking about watching paint dry for 1.5 hours. I didn’t intend to watch this entire video, but I did anyway because so many important questions were answered and so many salient issues were addressed.

Outstanding. In this day and age, one need not purchase the top of the top of the line scope. While I have Razors and Schmidt and Bender PMII’s on nine of my long range guns, in the past 90 days I went with 2 Vortex Strikeeagle 5-25x56FFP in the erb7c reticle.
At 1000.00 a pop much cheaper then 2800.00 for a razor or 3800.00for a S&B, and I’m impressed with pretty much everything about them. They’re not Razors, but easily capable to any distance I’m shooting. I’ve got one on a gas gun in 308 and one on a Remington 300wm sniper set up.
As this guy states their is sooooo much good glass out there anymore, even some of these no name scopes are really really capable.
Of note, I had purchased one of my old agency’s first sniper rifles. A Armalite m15, bull barrels24 inch non threaded barrel, it runs an early Gold Ring Leopold scope. This was a late 80s build.
I had intended in changing that scope out, but after some range time pushing 77g bullets to 600y and 700y, with ease, see no need. It’s a 30 mm tube with dial turrets, the company put the dial torrents on, way back then. It’s a bitchen little scope.
And I still have vortexes first red dots on a couple m4s, I can’t beat these red dots to death. I’m trying so I can exchange for the newer red dots.
My pet peeve, guys it’s only logical to run back up sights, I see pics daily of guys with bitchen rifles running great optics, and no backup sights, I don’t get it.
All mine are zero zero cowitnessed, except for my gas gun sniper rifles, I have high end scopes, but feel the need to in fact run BUIS. I’m running the “Troy” off set sights right side, the rifle cants easier for me that way.
If I were shooting left hand I’d want to can’t the rifle sights to the left, a no brained.
I’m 66 now, I’m not outrunning anybody, yet feel I have to contribute to my group. If I can make kill shots at say 1000y, that gives the young guns more Flex Time, and with overwatch unass the fight safety.
These days with modern equipment and optics 1000y is not a tough shot, I’m capable of much longer, but not shooting much past that these days.
the quality of rifles coming from the factory are easily capable of sub MOA, and a 600.00 optic on a 20 MOA rail or greater with give one the ability to be a decent shooter.
Great vid, Vortex kit is hard to beat with its return policy’s. They won’t question the How it happened, they fix it or replace it. I’ve had scopes fixed now and replaced.
Thank you for sharing the vid. The times are changing quickly if you’re not focused on getting shit and locations completely squared away, you could be in trouble.
