It’s Time For Ruger To Reintroduce The .44 Magnum Deerfield Rifle

I agree with him, and I don’t need four or any reasons. I’ve always wanted this rifle, but just always needed something else more. I see in the comments that some guys want a .357 magnum version. No, I want the .44 magnum version, and only then will I consider a .357 magnum rifle.
Oh, and fix the ejection problem first (where casings hit the scope).

My Uncle had one of the old 60’s versions (I think it was called the ‘Deerstalker;). I never saw him carry it. He told me it was supposed to replace the lever carbine he started out with in high school, but he soon outgrew the .44, replacing with a Browning 4 shot BAR in .30.06.

Found a nice one at a gun show a few years back. It now resided in one of my safes. A very nice addition to the collection. If Ruger wanted to make a few bucks they would re release it. The R&D is already done, they just need to tool up manufacturing. And one of these in .357 would probably be a fun gun also.

Absolutely. And, with a 12-15 round magazine, al la 30 Carbine it would make an awesome house carbine, in 44 or 357 but especially in 44.

I think the original had a small capacity tube magazine (3 or 4 round ?). The later made Deerfield had a rotary magazine similar to 10/22 design. So a hi-cap magazine might have some issues, especially with rimmed cartridges.
Recreating the M-1 Carbine would be a worthy project though. Sweet little woods carry rifle.
No need to mention how well the rifle performed in the battlefield – a lot of people loved it. Dad was a Navy MP in Guam right after WWII ended. He liked the gun quite a bit.

The few people I know who have one emphatically state that they’ll NEVER SELL IT!
Darn. I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

I’ll take one as soon as Ruger starts making them again! Definitely needs larger magazine capacity, fix the ejector issue with cartridges hitting the scope, picatinny rails for optics.

I imagine Ruger is presently scrambling to meet demand for the Marlin lever guns.
But an updated version should sell like hotcakes. There is definitely a market for this carbine.

I always liked that carbine. As others have stated, if they could come up with a reliable higher capacity magazine, it would be awesome.
Now, we have high(er) capacity “thumper” carbines in other calibers, but the ammo isn’t compatible with my .44 Mag pistols.

I don’t see why double stack mags couldn’t be developed to accommodate rimless cartridges for this platform.
10 mm, .30 SC, 5.7 mm, .30 M1 Carbine etc.
Why not?
